Catholic sex abuse crisis (Cardinal Donald Wuerl)

While I grieve for the children abused, I am not surprised.

The Cardinal being accused of covering it up in Pittsburgh (Donald Wuerl) is a fucking rat bastard. In 1985 John Paul II made him bishop and then sent him to spy on Archbishop Raymond Hunthausen who was one of the most liberal Archbishops ever in the history of US prelates. Hunthausen didn't know that Wuerl was sent to spy on him as the Pope was encouraged and goaded by crazed right wing Catholics in the Seattle area to send the spy.

Wuerl was and is a hard core conservative, the type that publicy would deny communion to a Democrat based on his/her reproductive stance while ignoring the other quality of life issues. (death penalty, welfare funding etc)

It comes as no surprise that these mother fucking conservative asswipes would have a guy like him covering up the sex abuse scandel. To them it's all about money and power...well fuck you Wuerl hope your ass finds itself in a jail cell real soon.

Hope the conservative wing fo the US Catholic bishops pays dearly for this. Every single conservative Catholic prelate needs to be removed, they're all like Wuerl

There should be calls for Wuerl to resign immediately

This is not a US problem - it is global. The Catholic Church and its leaders abuse children. They just need to hear two words 'missing father' and then they prey on the child.

Vatican meets #MeToo: Nuns denounce their abuse by priests
By NICOLE WINFIELD and RODNEY MUHUMUZA
Jul. 28, 2018

VATICAN CITY (AP) — The nun no longer goes to confession regularly, after an Italian priest forced himself on her while she was at her most vulnerable: recounting her sins to him in a university classroom nearly 20 years ago.

At the time, the sister only told her provincial superior and her spiritual director, silenced by the Catholic Church’s culture of secrecy, her vows of obedience and her own fear, repulsion and shame.

“It opened a great wound inside of me,” she told the Associated Press. “I pretended it didn’t happen.”

After decades of silence, the nun is one of a handful worldwide to come forward recently on an issue that the Catholic Church has yet to come to terms with: The sexual abuse of religious sisters by priests and bishops. An AP examination has found that cases have emerged in Europe, Africa, South America and Asia, demonstrating that the problem is global and pervasive, thanks to the universal tradition of sisters’ second-class status in the Catholic Church and their ingrained subservience to the men who run it.

She was well connected - translated for them. She was among a group who had audience with John XXIII.
I refused to call the bishop 'my lord'. I was irreverent early.
I remember when we spotted the priest at the drive in cinema with the wife of a well respected man. The priest loved spewing sermons about adultery. I was finished with them after that - the faith part was always missing. That was the end.
My brother told me stories about one of the priests at his high school- that scumbag was abusing the young boys and people knew about it.

Under Wuerl, the Pittsburgh diocese newspaper became right-wing, particularly during the 2004 presidential election. At that time, the editor was Robert Lockwood, former communications director for Opus Dei.

Right-wing propaganda is entrenched here in Western Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette fired its liberal editorial cartoonist, Bob Rogers. The paper now runs ridiculous right-wing cartoons which distort the truth.

I got to run now. Peace.

I was physically abused, not sexually as a child by a parish priest. I was 13 just came from Germany and the child of a single mother. The priest took an "interest" in me and my mother was all for tnhat. Partly because I was fatherless and partly because she was hoping for a vocation from me.

What he would do was send for me any chance he got and physically punish me. He would bare my behind and have me over his lap and soundly spank me any chance he got. I never said anything because I figured no one would believe, plus I still couldn't speak English all that well at the time.

He was super conservative and a royal asshole. As soon as I could leave the church and join another denomination I did. I have no patience for conservative Christians because of my experiences with him
