All people have individual personalities and presidents are people too so they aren't cookie cutter images of one another but they all, more or less, conduct themselves the same, regardless of party or ideology.
What would happen if Trump acted like a normal president ? Would he be believable ? Would he look phony ?

(8,964 posts)Although being Donald Trump he is who he is incapable of helping himself. A John Kasich or a Mitt Romney could have signed the same tax bill, deregulated until the cows came home, and appointed conservative judges without nosediving to the same extent in the court of public opinion. Trump's downfall is based on his repugnant style and not on "substance", and his mere presence is dragging down the Republican party and rightly so. The so-called conservative movement will no doubt be weighing in on their self-imposed Donald conundrum for years to come.

(52,230 posts)in for a penny, in for a pound. at this point he's stuck with extreme lies and denials and bullying.
it would all collapse in a flash if he acted remotely normal.

(99,710 posts)We would get a lot of the same policies with a President Kasich or Rubio and their approval ratings would be in the fifties. That being said I don't believe we get a Muslim travel ban, a family separation policy, and ICE operating like the Gestapo under them.

(52,230 posts)if he acted like a normal president now, after being donnie for all this time, vs. if he had acted like a normal president starting on election day.
had he acted like a normal president, it would have looked a lot more like the shrub administration. inept, harsh right-wing, but sticking to norms and pretending to president of all of us, not just rich white christian straight right-wing men.
we might have seen more actual legislation passed, so we can be grateful that donnie's incompetent on that score.
donnie's biggest impact is clearly his normalizing of white supremacist authoritarian crap. in the long run it may be a good thing, provided the country clearly rejects it and it becomes discredited. jury's still out, though in and of itself it's obviously a bad thing for now. clearly a normal president would not be engaging in such crap.
