The man grabbed the youngest, an 11-year-old girl, in front of the Dollar General Store, according to Millington police.
"He said, 'You're coming with me.' And like, he grabbed my face," 11-year-old Allison Eickhoff told WJRT. "This cannot be happening. I thought it was a test at first, but then I'm like, 'This is real.'"
Allison's sister had screamed moments earlier, trying to warn her. The 13-year-old used what she had in hand to fight the man off. "I grabbed my drink and chucked it at his head. I tried, I punched him in the head," Lauren Eickhoff told WJRT, adding that she was holding a hot cup of coffee.
The other two girls got involved as well, with the oldest friend attacking the man, according to WJRT. Once the man let go of Allison, he turned his attention to the 14-year-old.
"He grabbed another one by the hair after he had let the little one go, and they continued to kick and punch him and scream until they let go and ran off," Millington Police Department Chief Jason Oliver told WJRT.

(2,596 posts)My sister - eight years my junior - started sipping coffee at the age of about 4. I'm being deadly serious about this. She and her husband now live in Seattle (we were, sadly, born and raised in Texas). This doesn't have anything to do with the Starbucks generation of addicts.

(8,311 posts)For me it was when I got a cold and was wheezy. My mom didn't have any coverage for us until she graduated college and got a job with the state, and we lived with my grandparents. My grandmother grew up on a farm in the Depression, her mother was a midwife, etc. Grandpa believed more in doctors, and Mom got medical attention as a kid if something was seriously wrong, but a broken pinky didn't count as an emergency if Granny could splint it herself.
So I got a lot of old folk remedies for allergies/mild asthma, including coffee, until Mom got insurance for us and could get a real doctor to deal with it. I think the coffee was probably the only one backed up with any science.

(8,311 posts)The old-fashioned treatment for childhood asthma-like symptoms when she was growing up. Surprisingly science backs it up, but it's what they did for her little brother when he got wheezy in the Depression.
From a percolator. It probably *was* medicinal in strength, or at least certainly tasted medicinal. It grew on me, though... and by 12, yes, I was drinking coffee in the morning regularly.
Nowadays, though.... very few young people drink scalding hot coffee -- Starbucks, or the gas station version of one from a machine. Still, anything as a distraction would help, and if it was iced coffee even, would have been a surprise their attacker didn't see coming.

(11,001 posts)desperation. They do it in broad daylight and even in the midst of department stores. Many are pedophiles but it makes me wonder if there is some underground market for selling children for nefarious purposes. Parents, please watch your children carefully. It's frightening!

(86,636 posts)mess up their eyes, stab your fingers right in the sockets or throw anything that you can into their eyes. I know, easier said than done but it's very effective. Or one, if favorably positioned, ram the palm of your hand up into their nose, it could kill them but at that point it would be self defense.
Just sayin'.
