We have all heard talk about The apprentice tapes, and finally now
someone with credibility who was on the show has comes out and
said the tapes exist and he personally heard Trump say racially
insensitive comments.
For me this should be huge news, Penn has respect in the industry, for
someone of his stature to come out publicly is big news.
I hope the media continues to interview him about it.

(12,381 posts)Just read at Vulture, what penn said when asked, will he say what trump said, and he replied.
Can you tell me what youve heard him say?
No. If Donald Trump had not become president, I would tell you all the stories. But the stakes are now high and I am an unreliable narrator. What I do, as much as anything, is Im a storyteller. And storytellers are liars. So I can emotionally tell you things that happened racially, sexually, and that showed stupidity and lack of compassion when I was in the room with Donald Trump and I guarantee you that I will get details wrong. I would not feel comfortable talking about what I felt I saw in that room because when I was on that show I was sleeping four to five hours a night. I was uncomfortable. Stress is the wrong word, but I was not at my best. Then at the end of a day, they put you in a room and they bring out a guy [Trump] who has no power whatsoever and hes capricious and petty and

(15,382 posts)I do have to give Penn props. I disagree with him on politics (although he seems to be realizing that libertarianism is a fool's dream), and I agree with him on a lot more, but the man has a code of ethics that he wrestles with but tries to be true to.
Ultimately, whatever Penn does have on Trump probably wouldn't matter. It would be more proof for sane people of how bad Trump is, but for Trumpistas, Penn would be, for all intents and purposes, one of them mouthy New Yorkers (though he was born in MA) and an avowed, extremely outspoken atheist. There's nothing that he could say or do to harm Trump in the eyes of his most ardent followers. Nobody can. I think there's a bottom 25-28% of people in this country that will support a republican president no matter what based off George W's lowest approval ratings. Trump is around 39% right now. I'm not sure we would be able to find another 11% that would consider racism bad enough to abandon Putin's Poodle.

(62,270 posts)He doesn't want to say things that aren't completely accurate and he always says take what he says with a grain of salt. If he were to say one thing, and it turned out not to be an accurate representation of what happened, then Trump would be able to use it to bolster himself, believe it or not.
It is a state of our politics where you can say something that is 99% true and accurate but that 1% that you get wrong about something is scrutinized and it makes the rest of the truth somehow not relevant. I don't know how you can actually get around that.

(6,831 posts)was saying a LOT about trump around the time of the election. I recall reading that he said, "Whatever you think of Donald Trump, he's much worse than you know" or something like that. He revealed that on the last season of The Apprentice with trump, he was in the run-off with some one else and the network called him and told him that if he endorsed trump for president, he'd win that season of the show and his charity would win. He said that because he refused to endorse trump, he was told that he would lose and he did.
I don't think Gillette has anything to gain or lose by being honest here, so I believe him.

at the time.
He was on the local news in Vegas all the time. He even went on the network news closer to the election to talk about how bad Trump was. He famously voted Hillary and put a Hillary Clinton sticker on his car despite being a Libertarian and never having voted for non-Libertarian in his life. He made it very clear how bad Trump was.
His podcast throughout the 2016s was all Trump all the time, very political. He's since given it up but since this tapes thing is coming back he's giving an answer. I don't blame him for giving up the political aspect because quite frankly I can't read news about Trump on a daily basis without being extremely depressed. I come here once or twice a day when I used to spend the better part of a day with DU opened on my PC or phone. It's bad.
Just search Penn Jillette Trump on YouTube you will find hundreds of videos.

(27,811 posts)He certainly wasn't on the news out here (Washington), and if he had tapes, he should have released them.
Why he would appear on that buffoon's show at all is a different issue. All that air time Trump got over the years and this is the result.

(62,270 posts)During the election he was pretty much the best source for anti-Trump stuff because Trump is his literal sworn enemy. This talk about Trump's racial insensitivity is not new, but the people who have the proof are afraid to break their NDAs. We're talking career ending moves here. People want to keep their jobs and avoid a lawsuit.
Eventually all the tapes will come out.
His podcast is great, btw, talk about magic and show biz and stuff a lot.
