Joel Osteen and Lakewood Church honored by city of Houston for post-Harvey help

Presented without comment

https://abc13.com/3957138/?sf195552377=1

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) --
Pastor Joel Osteen, who initially took criticism for not opening the doors of his famed megachurch to those displaced in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, was recognized Tuesday by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and city council members for his role in storm relief.

Osteen, his family, and his Lakewood Church staff were honored at city hall.

According to the city, Lakewood helped thousands affected by Harvey's flooding get back on their feet, including assisting in rehabbing flood-damaged homes.

Turner presented a proclamation to Osteen in recognition of the church's efforts in the aftermath of the storm.

Nobody should get credit for reluctantly doing the right thing when they've been shamed into it.

Even if he was shamed into it, if he actually did do something he should get credit. His money is as green as anybody's and if credit will make him more willing to fork it over the next time, go for it! When a guy has a shit ton of cash and you need cash to help people out, any legal way of getting him to send a wad your way is fair.

If you're shamed into doing what you're suppose to do based on your religious teachings, you don't get rewarded! You get a off camera thanks, a pat on the head, and you get reminded that the next time you need to do the right thing!!!

Has the mayor honored Mattress Mack Jim McInvale? If he has not, will he? Mattress Mack supposedly did more for people and the city of Houston than Joel Osteen did during and after the flooding. From what I know Mattress Mack opened his store as a shelter during and after the storm. He allowed first responders to use his store as a resting place. He even supposedly allowed first responders to sleep on the mattresses in the store. After the storm he provided food, drinks, and cleaning supplies to anyone who needed those items.

I am pretty sure he is at least a Reagan Republican. He quotes Reagan in one of his commercials. Maybe he is just trying to appease the shoppers who live in the areas around his stores. However, I think he has said a few good things about Donald Trump. I am not sure if he endorsed anyone in 2008, 2012, or 2016.
