(4,429 posts)It will take time for it to all shake out, but whoever breaks away - s/he has got my vote .
I'm looking for solid public service experience when I vote in the primaries.
Celebrity Presidents have been a disaster.

(58,785 posts)would you expect prompt, competent service? How about a babysitter? An accountant or attorney who shared your disregard for mainstream practices (the national news is providing some names to call)? Or a medical practitioner who broke away from the pack of physicians so unfortunately indoctrinated in establishment medical schools?
In every field, practitioners agree on most things that can and need to be done and agree on various methods that will successfully achieve them. Brilliance comes on top of that basic competence, not instead of.
You might try scanning the many studies and construction specifications for a local civic improvement some time and see if after that you have any real idea if it should go forward. If you're smart, you'll realize you don't begin to know what you need to.

(5,528 posts)Anybody that wants to be President should pass this test for me.
"Can I envision them in a upper Cabinet position?"
In other words, would I consider them for Secretary of Defense, State, Treasury, Homeland Security or AG?
If I can't consider them qualified for any of those positions, I can't consider them qualified to lead ALL of those positions.
I like Avenatti but I cringe at the thought of him becoming AG and he wouldn't even be considered for the others. Sorry, no thanks.
Bottom line is that people with public experience are really the only ones who would fill those positions for me so by default, the President should have public sector experience.

(5,272 posts)Oddly enough, what a surprise, you can find experience across the spectrum of philosophical ideologies, even though some are awfully flawed on the face of them. So what did that experience count for? Give me two candidates who seem to both understand (obviously based upon my own filter) what ails us and what we need to do to recover and thrive into the future, and sure, I'll take the one with more experience. But if I don't find that quality in both I'd be inclined to take the person who seems to get it. I trust that people can surround themselves with and tap the most experienced advisers to help them make informed decisions.
