white New York police officer is under investigation after he allegedly broke into a Nashville home where he used a racial slur against a sleeping family.

Officer Michael Reynolds, of Manhattan North, was reportedly caught on surveillance footage walking down the street around 2.30am on July 9 in a Nashville neighborhood.

Conese Halliburton said the officer, who was an Airbnb guest at a house nearby, broke down her front door.

'You heard the big boom and that was my door getting kicked in. My sons were trying to stop him and he's like, 'this is my m*****f**king house, this is my house!' He kept repeating it,' Halliburton told News 2.

Halliburton, who has lived at her home for 30 years, said the man refused to leave. That's when her oldest son threatened him.

'My oldest son said, "I will kill you if you don't get out of my house,"' Halliburton told the station.

He should not be trusted to treat fairly the people he is supposed to "protect and serve. Nevertheless:

According to the NYPD, Reynolds' duty status has not changed while the department awaits the results of Nashville's Investigation.

He obviously should be suspended during the investigation.

What the hell is wrong with people? Seriously, who does that? Even if he had been at the right place, who kicks in the door of their rental house? I’m assuming he was drunk off his ass.

He apologized for kicking in the door but not for his threats or racism and faces only a misdemeanor charge. He should be fired and charged with B&E, trespassing, assault and ethnic intimidation.

I’m sure he’ll get nothing.

But this white police officer, who violently broke down their door, threatened their lives and used racial epitaphs is still working and maybe the Nashville police will arrest him on a misdemeanor, or not. This is a felony.

According to the NYPD, Reynolds' duty status has not changed while the department awaits the results of Nashville's Investigation.
A spokesperson for the department said they are working closely with the Nashville police on the matter.
Charges have yet to be filed but a Nashville police spokesperson said the officer could face misdemeanor charges for aggravated trespassing.

A black man would have been shot dead.

There would not have been an investigation into why he did it.

By extension, the SYG also includes the good faith error. That's when a white man erroneously walks into another person's house and thinks, in good faith, that it's his own home. It's up to the owners of the house to prove that his actions were malicious.

But then again, maybe not, we live in a crazy world.

What if the homeowner shot the cop and also claimed SYG? That would be a crazy court case.

I’m sure he is used to NYC laws where you can do that and not fear someone justifiably using deadly force against you. But he’s lucky it didn’t play out that way pulling it in TN.
