I have been a long time reader at DU and decided that it was time for me to come out of the shadows.
For my first contribution I would like to present a little item I created to commemorate the 38th year anniversary of one of my least favorite president's early retirement.
Edited for fuzzy math.

(53,475 posts)I like the "Nixon Day" idea.

(111,359 posts)My long, grey beard isn't quite that long.
But yes, it would be nice to have and "Equal before the Law" day. If only Nixon had been. Unfortunately, he was allowed to walk, taking his pension with him and leaving men in his administration like Cheney and Rumsfeld unscathed to damage the country after him.

(12,160 posts)your idea for a Nixon day, but it needs a catchier name.

(7,299 posts)to differ as he was above the law. The doesn't exist to punish the rich and powerful, IMO.

(659 posts)but then clunky Gerald Ford pardoned him and sidelining Ken Starr and his team of prosecutors. I do remember watching all the Watergate news in amazement.
Oh and welcome to DU, MichaelSoE!

(47,992 posts)he did it BY COURTING unions and turning them against one another, with the objective also of setting the very successful seeds of Republican fascism in the South, a.k.a. the Southern Strategy, may his name NEVER be forgotten.

(36,469 posts)Us Native Californians despised him before it became chic to despise him. Hell, Grandma, my political sage, never let a moment go without calling him a crook, and that was back in the fifties.

(3,059 posts)So unfortunately I can't upload the pictures I took of the Watergate Hotel when I was back east for my annual get together with my sisters!
That was a go-o-o-d day in American history when that bastard resigned. One of my uncles threw a block party in Philly. How about a "Name That Holiday" contest here! Hell, even if the government doesn't recogize it, WE can!!
Welcome out of the shadows and into the light of DU! Feels good, doesn't it?

(9,678 posts)Nixon could probably not pass today's right-wing litmus test. Remember the 3 month ( I think) national wage and price control experiment back then? Imagine what the result of a similar federal intervention would be today...hysterical frothing at the mouth and massive right-wing heart attack, I'd say.

(4,835 posts)...but we have days we recognize.
The attack on Pearl Harbor - December 7, 1941
D-Day - June 6, 1944
Rudy Gulliani gains national recognition day - September 11, 2001
How about we just recognize it as: Resignation Day
Whether it proved that no one is above the law; I'll let others debate, but I think it demonstrated the power of the press was still alive in America. It was investigative reporting that led to his resignation.

(876 posts)That was my favorite bumper sticker from back in the day. As soon as it began to appear on regular middle class mom and pop cars it meant that his demise was near. If we were to propose a day of infamy for this faker it should bear his name.
