They have been pandering to racists for decades. Now they have a frothy mix of Nazis and batshit crazies.

Peace

We must as socalled respectable reoublicans that claim they are not racists whether they would be comfortable living in America if only Trump's base of deplorables were the only Americans left with them. They vote with those nuts because it is their tribe and there will be enough democrats to put brakes on some extreme policy, but we need to hit them in the face with what if that was not the case, because THEY are voting to help it not be the case.

Trump is the almost inevitable result of Republican rhetoric and policy over the last 50 years. From the white backlash to the Civil Rights Movement and Nixon's Southern Strategy to Reagan's dog whistling (starting with his speech on states' rights near Philadelphia, MS) to the white backlash to a Black man becoming POTUS (see Tea Party and Trump's Birtherism).

Shying away from anti-racism and anti-sexism (or what some dismiss as 'identity politics') is not the answer. On the contrary, Democrats need to prioritize putting an end to systemic racism and systemic sexism (turnout can be increased if our party stops taking persons of color for granted, which the DNC Chairman recently acknowledged). This will result in there being much less economic injustice, which is enabled by the fostering and exploitation of racism and sexism. Racism and sexism are then used to justify racial disparities (such as wealth/income disparities between white households and Black or Latino households). It's a vicious cycle, which will only be interrupted by putting an end to systemic racism and sexism (which will, over time, lead to a decline in individual racism and sexism).
