Other than that, I'll support any candidate on the Democratic ticket.
Which makes it easy because the candidates under indictment are, so far as I can tell, Republicans.

(11,109 posts)I can see Trump's DoJ indicting a couple of Democrats just to take off some heat.
Yeah, I'm a suspicious cuss.

(43,890 posts)You really think the Department of Justice is corrupt?
TomSlick
(11,109 posts)Meaning they are all "good" Republicans. There are ninety-three US Attorneys. One of them would follow such an order.

Did you watch Strzok's testimony?
The suggestion that I, in some dark chamber somewhere in the F.B.I., would somehow cast aside all of these procedures, all of these safeguards, and somehow be able to do this is astounding to me. It simply couldnt happen. And the proposition that this is going on, that it might occur anywhere in the F.B.I., deeply corrodes what the F.B.I. is in this society, the effectiveness of their mission, and it is deeply destructive.

(11,109 posts)I'm just concerned that there might be a US Attorney out there that would like to make points with the party by creating a diversion.
I hope I am being overly cynical. (I often am.)

Sowing doubt and confusion about the DOJ and especially the FBI is a Republican mantra at the moment. One that we should in no way echo or support.

(11,109 posts)I'm not casting aspersions about the FBI or the career personnel at the DOJ. I don't doubt the career prosecutors in individual US Attorney's offices.
While US Attorneys are political appointees, I am confident that the vast majority of them are good and professional attorneys. My concern is that it will only take one US Attorney out there looking to make a name with the party to launch a political prosecution.
I'm the worst of all possible worlds, a cynic and a worrier.

(4,463 posts)... partisan politics this asshole has has wrought in our government and institutions, and we have to stop applying the standards from the past. Meuller and Rosenstein are career professionals from the previous era. They can separate their personal politics from their job. Im not so sure all of the new guys can or are even inclined to do that. Just imagine if Steven Miller had obtained a law degree in his spare time between klan rallies in college (entirely possible - you can get a law degree in night school). If he had been appointed to an AG position, do you think there is anything he wouldnt do to push his twisted agenda and that of Trump? I dont know if there is a Miller among Trumps appointees, but can you be sure theres not?
Im not picking at you, and Im sorry for jumping into this conversation between you and another poster. I genuinely wish I could say I agree with you that institutions like the DOJ and FBI are above reproach. They should be, and Im inclined to think most of them still are. But Trump is on a mission to undermine them for that very reason, and I am kind of cynical about what Ive seen this last year and a half. I never say never anymore when it comes to how low they are willing to go.

(17,984 posts)Oh wait, she was never under criminal indictment. That was all (and continues to be) just a bunch of GOP smoke.
