(58,724 posts)She talks about it in interviews such as this one:
https://www.50statesofblue.com/2018/03/kansas-sharice-davids-first-native-american-woman-congress/
She has cited her corporate attorney background as one of the reasons why she would be effective in Congress:

(14,249 posts)corporate attorney and we know what folks think of corporate attorneys.
Funny, she didn't say she that her work as a corporate attorney was largely representing the interests of marginalized tribal nations. Or that she worked on entrepreneurship for the Pine Ridge reservation. Or that she was a White House Fellow in the Obama administration where she worked on civil rights and opportunity issues - or any of the other truly progressive things that Sharice has devoted her entire career to doing.
No, she just dismissed her as a "corporate attorney" and nothing else, obviously for the purpose of suggesting that she was a sellout. And you know that just as well as I do.
So, nice try, Boo, but my point stands.

(24,617 posts)or the way AOC impugned it? The Welder campaign, which AOC enthusiastically joined, chose to go dirty and attack Davids' character. A simple "congratulations" doesn't change that.

(62,276 posts)Does that make her the evil bad? What kind of critical thinking are we encourging here? Or non-critical, I should say.
The guy who passed net neutrality, Wheeler, was a corporate telcom guy who worked with the big 3 for his whole life. When Obama appointed him people ripped their hair out about how it was yet another evil corporate pick.

(16,990 posts)corruption as a way to impugn Davids character. I cant imagine how it would be taken if a Democrat flew out to the Bronx to trash AOCs character simply for being educated and accomplished. Thanks for pointing this out, EB.

(146,333 posts)That would be a gracious thing to do, I think. I'll watch for her Tweet.
In fact, I suggested that to her in a reply to her tweet. I'm sure she'll do so real soon.

(62,276 posts)And I don't see Brent Welder coming out for Sharice Davids.
If you look at the Twitter thread you can see all his "supporters" bashing her, calling it a conspiracy, whole nine yards: https://mobile.twitter.com/BrentWelder/status/1027218620840067077

(62,276 posts)Worked on Obama's before that. Is/was a career campaigner.
That's literally the only claim to fame a large number of Our Revolution have to their name.
I saw AOC's speech for Welder on FaceBook live, she was nice to Davids and I felt that she didn't really want to be supporting Welder, but had to so she could support Our Revolution. I think she has serious Presidential aspirations.

(11,949 posts)I have criticized her here and cant stand her Independent mentor.
That said, she has a real chance to build a long and successful congressional record. But she is 28. When I was 28 I often was captured in the moment and cant imagine the excitement and confidence that winning a safe blue primary would have given me. It would not have been pretty!
But some of us democrats from purple states do appreciate the vocal, more left leaning liberals from safe districts pushing the party, even if it makes us uncomfortable.
I am thinking Barney Frank, Paul Wellstone and even flawed Charles Rangle. They played a powerful role in slowly changing the tenor in America. They realized that change was slow but they pushed for their goals. I think AOC can play the same role.
But, and there is always a but! The democrats I mentioned realized the party was diverse and that their brand of democrat would not fly in many purple districts. And could even be detrimental. They kept the big goal in mind. You did not see Barney Frank weighing in for midwestern candidates. He knew he was on the right side of history but knew how to help the cause
When Barney was defending his sexuality in the early 90s he had no supporters and paid a huge personal price. Hell, I was no supporter. But does anyone reading this think we would have freedom of marriage today without that man? I dont.
I hope once AOC actually gets in congress and realizes how little power one freelance Freshman congress person has she will buckle down.
So there is my AOC support post. I give it grudgingly but as a liberal I choose to think outside my prejudice.
Now, her Independent mentor... not so much!
