To extend the boxing analogy Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard both lost their first bouts with Joe Frazier and Roberto Duran and both came back to win their rematches and rubber matches. Both showed in their first losses they could stand toe to toe with their opponents.

(102,378 posts)1. Every bit of my rational brain tells me that superstitions are ridiculous...
Yet, admittedly, when I saw your post, I thought, oh, no.... Ya know the "counting your chickens before they are hatched" curse...
Still, as close as it is, I STILL count this as a win.

(4,429 posts)3. Good warning about the 'blue wave'
We need to fight HARD in each and every district. This whole blue wave thing is nice to think about, but it can't take the place of working with every available voter.
After the wave has hit the shore, we can look back and congratulate ourselves.
Until then, we Democrats have to hit the pavement.

Also it is hard not to let your biases color your analysis.

This November, Trump will flailing his arms and bellowing "No Mas".

Republicans to vote in the mid-terms. I'd rather have O'Connor win in November than this 90 day seat. All depends on turn out.

Not in this instance or the instances I cited. The close losses provided inspiration.
