MoviePass is continuing to make changes amidst its cash struggles.
The once-red-hot ticketing service will now limit customers to seeing three movies a month, according to a company press release. This change will take effect Aug. 15.
Currently, MoviePass subscribers can see one movie a day for $9.95 a month. However, 85 percent of these customers see three or fewer movies a month, MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe said in the release, and his company is now focusing on those customers.
"While most of our loyal subscribers shared the passion for this new accessible movie experience and experimented fairly, the fact is that a small number have used our business model to a point where it was compromising the business long-term stability," Lowe said. "As is true with any new company, weve evolved to accommodate what has become an unprecedented phenomenon."
The release also announced that MoviePass will not be raising its prices to $14.95 per month and will not limit users' access to new releases two things the company said it would do last week.

(94,686 posts)...that Movie Pass was filling seats that were otherwise going empty. If a seat's available, it doesn't seem appropriate to limit access to only three.

(16,869 posts)They were an amazing concept but they are clearly showing their hands after the second fuck up in two months around blockbuster movies....they are done....DONE!! And I truly hate it...because the idea of a more affordable move ticket's time is right now!

(56,828 posts)and their movie pass changed from unlimited per month for $19.95 to 3 per WEEK for the same price. However, I would think very few people would see more than 12 movies per month outside of movie critics? Maybe some teens that can drive and are home for the summer?

(6,139 posts)I got 3-4 times its value already so its not a big deal for me if it goes bankrupt. Their business model is unsustainable. The magic formula is one movie per week. It will more than cover all the movies worth watching.
