(146,325 posts)There's a choice. That's my point. Would you prefer no choices?

(146,325 posts)I'm in favor of choices. Looking at that menu, I assume that vegans would choose the second item, and non-vegans would most often choose the first.
So, this restaurant caters to both groups. Both can find tasty food they will enjoy, and at the same price.
If I owned a restaurant, I'd probably offer choices like the ones I put in the OP.
How, I wonder, is that being a dick? Most restaurants I go to these days offer vegan, vegetarian and items not containing gluten. I can't remember not seeing a non-meat burger on the menu at burger places in my area, actually, for quite some time.
I'm not particularly fond of vegan items that try to be something else, but I'm not opposed to vegan choices, and sometimes order them. The point of my OP was to offer two similar menu items that allow an informed choice to the diner.
I guess I'm missing the reason for your objection. Was it because I detailed the ingredients of the "schrimp?" It's important that ingredients be shown in menus. It's important that customers know what they will be eating. The ingredients for the actual shrimp item were also listed, along with information about the source of the shrimp.
Those items allow the customer to make informed choices that match their appetites and preferences. It's what I want to see on menus at restaurants I patronize. I want information about exactly what I will be ordering.
If you've read my posts in this and other threads, you'll know that I often prepare vegan dinners for my friends who are vegans. They say they enjoy the food I prepare. I have never, however, served anything that is pretending to be something else. I also identify what is in the food I offer my guests so they will be informed. If asked, I will also provide the recipes for every dish I make and serve.
I'm about honesty and truthfulness in dining, at home and in restaurants. I expect information, so I can choose the dishes I prefer at the time I order.

(146,325 posts)They would require similar preparation times. I doubt the ingredient costs would be much different, either. So, same price. Two choices, to allow diners to order what they want. Which would you order?

(146,325 posts)I was curious about the other dish.
Both options are available, to allow everyone to order what they want. Both are thoroughly described, too, so that customers know what's in what they're ordering.
Customer's choice.
