Would right-wingers and conservatives refuse to use it because it is socialism?
A) yes. They are principled and would refuse to go against their values and would rather stay sick and die
B) no. Right-wingers only hate single-payer because that's what they are told to do by their leaders. But if they were given that option, of course they would use it and love it because they are gigantic hypocrites.

(51,623 posts)Half of the GOP voters didn't even know that "Obamacare" was the ACA until the govt was ready to take it away from them. Once you give people something they like it is hard to take it back. Voters in both parties like affordable health care and those who are using it as a campaign issue are winning.

Im sure some stoics just died or suffered.

(32,041 posts)their use of government benefits like Medicare, Medicaid, SS or Unemployment is legitimate. Those brown and black people using it are unAmerican freeloaders abusing the system.
Just like their teen niece's or daughter's abortion was justified, but every other abortion is an abomination.

Right wingers will always rationalize that THEY are entitled to benefits ... unlike THOSE other people ...

(6,709 posts)showed Medicare-for-all would cost 32 TRILLION $ over the next 10 years. Scary, right? Un-doable.
It was helpfully pointed out that that meant saving 2 TRILLION $ over the current system, while covering 30 million more people.
The richest country in the world can do this, no problem.

(17,235 posts)more debt. Respectfully I hugely disagree with you; healthcare for all, at the current insane price gouging rates, is absolutely not affordable or doable. Second, why should a country providing some of the worst documented quality of healthcare in the world be rewarded with the current unaffordable rates?! It is beyond a disgrace.

(6,709 posts)while simultaneously refusing to use the bargaining power to, say, negotiate lower prices for drugs or hospitalizations or whatever. We also continually spend an obscene amount on a Defense department that cannot win a war and is seemingly uninterested in cyberwar. We even give them--without a debate!--billions more than they ask for.
It is about priorities. We can protect the interests of businesses and the rich, or we can protect the interests of our citizens. Vote for your preference.

(12,344 posts)In typical Rand fashion, it makes no sense at all. So basically, it's only moral to take public assistance if you don't believe in it.
Public assistance comes from tax money. Tax money is a form of theft. If you don't believe taxes are theft and therefore you are entitled to benefit from it, you are immoral. But if you do not believe in taxation you recognize that it is theft, and any benefit you receive back is actually restitution for the original theft. Since it is okay to accept restitution of stolen money, it is moral to accept the public benefit.

(4,490 posts)Just like a stupid amount of them separated the ACA from "Obamacare". Same already happens with Medicare, Medicaid, and every other social program that keeps our country going.
The good news is that they're a shrinking demographic. The bad news is that their voting power keeps increasing despite this.

I hope the do turn down single payer if we ever get it. There will soon be less red hat traitors around that way LOL
