They have taken a lot of heat lately. The school shootings, for example, while not breaking the NRA's bravado, have taken a toll. The rumors of the NRA running RubleSlush to the GOPee has hurt them and may well be the reason for them saying they need cash to survive. The feds are almost certainly closing in and it may be that the RublePipeline has been redirected to avoid detection. Maybe some church group someplace. Who knows?
In any case, I think the game plan is simple. Fold their tent and scurry away like roaches in a NYC apartment when the lights come on after the human gets home after the bars close.
LaPierre will retire on his millions and become a hair stylist doing his famous Adolf Cut for the Charlottesville refugees. Dana will become a free lance right wing aging hottie fronting for Lee Greenwood.
The NRA will soon enough reconstitute as something else. Think of a name. Safe Gun Society. Protectors of Uhmurikin Kids an' Wimmins. Musket Morons. Flintlock Floozies. Gunnerz For God. Et cetera.
Seriously, I don't believe they're broke. I do think they're avoiding their well deserved fate that's coming down on them.

They're just ruthless opportunists who see a chance cash in for more by pretending to be broke.

(34,183 posts)...but no one has the organizational structure of the NRA national or in states.
Even though GOA and SFA would grow I don't think they could replicate the NRA's influence machine.

Of course they're claiming substantial damages.

On the other hand, you have Broidy. I couldn't believe that arrangement, either.

Because it a subsidiary, any losses that exceed the capitalization do not flow upwards.
