It's not just Finland

Europe could break an all-time temperature record in the next few days. And parts of southern Spain and Portugal are forecast to go above 47C (116.6F), surpassing national records.

But if you couldn't tell from the thermometers, there are giveaways everywhere - from a melting mountain in Sweden to a rumoured Brussels sprout shortage.

Here are just some of the developments - some weird, some disturbing - that the heatwave has sparked across the Continent...

Big sis is in Denmark and can't remember anything like this. Even spring was very hot this year. It's all of Northern Europe.

is warm enough to scuba dive without a wetsuit... never mind needing a drysuit.

As an experienced diver... this scares the shit out of me. Absolutely eye-popping. Unbelievable.

This is not normal... and isn't anywhere near normal. Tipping point achieved... the test tube has changed color.

The soil in many places in the arctic are now net source (not sink) of atmospheric carbon due to methane releases and perma frost melting.

the oil under the perma frost which they couldn't get to before now and the oil will create more CO2.

The diet of people (farmed animals which eat plants and produce waste with methane) is contributing to it as well. Human existence is directly linked to Climate Change. The really scary thing is what you mentioned...the perma frost melting releases more CO2 which makes more perma frost melt releasing even more CO2 which makes more..............

We are seeing it all NOW, not 20 or 30 years from now. Jerry Brown's speech was accurate earlier this week. Money, insects, disease, infrastructure, immigration, famine, civil and economic world unrest all as a result of Climate Change is reality in our lifetime, not the next generation's.

We are in the States on vacation.

A friend told us they have papered over every window to keep the heat down. No one has air conditioning, including us, and my wife returns in a week.

Try to shade them with extended covers on the outside.

That's what we do in AZ.

really needed it. I could not get through the summer without it. I can't stand the heat. It has been in the high 80's/low 90's here w/ very high dew points. It's so disgusting. As soon as you leave the house you feel like you need another shower again. I can't stand feeling sticky and sweaty all the time. I can't wait until fall.
