CBS/AP August 3, 2018, 4:53 AM
The case was first reported by ProPublica. Authorities charge that Pacheco performed sex acts on two boys and touched six others, all between ages 15 to 17 at the time.
"One of the boys decided to speak up about what had happened to him, and then it was kind of a snowfall where another boy the roommate spoke up that it also happened to him," Michael Grabell, one of the ProPublica reporters who uncovered the details of abuse at the Southwest Key shelter, told CBS News.
Court documents also state that Pacheco is HIV-positive and that some of the teens opted to be tested for the virus.
The revelations Thursday came one day after police said another worker at a different Southwest Key facility, Fernando Magaz Negrete, is suspected of molesting a 14-year-old immigrant girl.

If this were in a movie people would say it's not realistic.

His HIV status has little to do with the above, except for feeding into fear and bigotry. The more important question would be is he undetectable.

The CDC is following the lead of more than 400 international groups that signed a consensus statement in 2016 recognizing that undetectable = untransmittable (U=U).

(8,311 posts)... known poz status of offender or not.
However, I watched my Dad die of it, and the medicines only work so long -- eventually a person's virus outsmarts the tech. It's a scary fucking virus and people, in my opinion, have gotten too damn complacent. Both in getting new antiretrovirals and research into other methods of controlling it vs our current cocktail of options, and their precautions in sexual behavior, as evidenced by the skyrocketing syphilis epidemic in my city.
Because once the drugs stop working, it's just as ugly of a death as anything pre-HAART.
My dad lived with HIV for 17 years and I definitely don't support ostracism of HIV+ people. But if a person is sexually assaulted and their offender is known to be positive for the virus, they absolutely should be informed of potential exposure -- even if it appeared from another thread he did seem to choose criminal acts that didn't involve him depositing sperm.
Ideally, however, there'd be universal paid-for testing done for all victims of sexual assault -- because a person can be unaware of their status.
