Besides, if the NRA had simply stayed a sportsmens' organization, they wouldn't be in this position.

It's a well known, well-worn fund-raising ploy, and Cletus and Lurleen fall for it every time.

(16,646 posts)It's vastly less about actual budgets, and more about the fact that they are having trouble buying insurance of various types. I suspect at "any" price. But yeah, never hurts to use it to drum up more donations.

(56,828 posts)Gun makers would advertise that everybody needed to buy their guns right fucking now before Clinton (and then) Obama were going to take them all. NRA donations skyrocketed.
Now, with Trump around, that's not going to happen until he's at least out of office, so they need a new way to gin up financial support!
