Trump is a (would-be) tyrant, who's not yet in total control/power.
But he controls America's nuclear arsenal that can destroy the entire world.
And most Americans don't believe that Trump is mentally fit to hold that power.
So here we are. An unfit man with millions of followers, doing whatever he wants to do.
We bitch. We moan. The real news reports his daily insanities.
But nothing changes. He's still there spewing his fantasies every hour of every day.
All that can stop him is the Republican Party. And at the moment, they're brain dead.
So here's my question: Is the Constitution a suicide pact?
We all know it wasn't meant to be.
But at this moment, the Constitution is preventing us from removing a madman from power,

(57,489 posts)Oh, no, it's not.
The issue is that the people who can use the power they have to remove him from office won't do a damn thing.

(115,733 posts)so that each branch of government would operate as a check on the others, apparently assuming that the people who held positions in each branch would actually fulfill their duty of oversight as to the others. In the past that usually happened, if sometimes imperfectly. This time, though, the GOPers in Congress, who would rather maintain power than do their jobs, are intentionally refusing to do anything at all.

(8,052 posts)I also have been wracking my brain about options. I know it gets thrown around a lot but I think we're in a Constitutional Crises....but I don't know the exact definition and I don't know if we've ever actually been in one. I think it's time to visit my friend Google...LOL....
Well, here you go:
In political science, a constitutional crisis is a problem or conflict in the function of a government that the political constitution or other fundamental governing law is perceived to be unable to resolve. Such a crisis may arise from a variety of possible causes.

I repeat: "Is the Constitution a suicide pact?"
I know it wasn't meant to be, but here we are.
So what are we going to do about it?
