She spent 10.2 Million for a job that pays $181,980 per year
Bill Lee, a business executive from south of Nashville, clinched a victory in Tennessees Republican primary in what turned out to be a contentious race between four top-tier Republican candidates. At the time the race was called, Black was in third, behind Randy Boyd, a former Department of Economic and Community Development commissioner from Knoxville.
Lee, a family business owner and cattle farmer, ran as an outsider candidate; on policy, he was as conservative as his primary opponents, but he benefited from being left out of the crossfire. He will face former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, a Democrat, in November.
The race is a major defeat for Black, who held a powerful chair role in the House as the head of the Budget Committee and could have had a future in House Republican leadership. An early favorite in the race, she had Vice President Mike Pences endorsement and was running as President Trumps candidate (despite never actually getting his formal endorsement). Her loss indicates that running close to Trump doesnt guarantee success, even in a deeply red state like Tennessee.

.@DianeBlackTN is running for Governor of TN & a strong supporter of #MAGA agenda of tax cuts, military $$ & a champion of right to life policies. There are great candidates running but Diane has been my friend for years, we served together in the House, & she has my support!

(82,849 posts)Probably not; will anyone ask Sarah Sanders about this race? See, this is why national political figures don't usually weigh in on local contests. You're bound to be on the losing side from time to time, and when you strain your arm patting yourself on the back for your successes, you should also have to answer questions when your candidate loses.
I'd like to see Sanders spend a weekend with a sour stomach over having to dodge legitimate questions. Put her right off her cheese plate.

(3,784 posts)She basically wanted everyone to know that she and Trump were BFFs. She had footage of Trump saying her name on two separate occasions (one in which the ad proudly said, "Only ONE candidate helped Donald Trump write the middle class tax cut." And in her attack ads on the other 2 candidates, she accused them both of NOT supporting Trump.
I looked up the results last night because I was curious. She finished in THIRD place, behind the 2 guys she accused of not supporting Trump enough. Guess even in Tennessee, Trump's name is poison.
