Morning Joe Says Sarah Sanders Trashing Media Shows She’s ‘Afraid’ of Trump: ‘It’s a Stalinist Phrase For God’s Sake!’

On Friday, Morning Joe went in on Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the Trump administration’s undemocratic hostility towards the free press.

The conversation centered on the latest White House press briefing, where Sanders and CNN’s Jim Acosta had a major sparring match over President Donald Trump‘s referral to the media as the “enemy of the people” — and Sanders refused to disavow the term.

Presidential historian Jon Meacham lamented that the president’s legacy will be based on his appeasement of his base and anti-media hostility.

“It’s a Stalinist phrase for God’s sake!” Meacham said. “It comes out of totalitarian regimes to declare that a free press is the enemy of the people.”

As Meacham said that this hostility could eventually cause someone to get hurt, David Ignatius noted how Trump added to the “toxic situation” last night by ripping the press at a campaign rally.

1. Sad, as I watched I thought - what else can she say?

Not *should* but *can* because of the unstable and vile-tempramented Trump. I agree that she seems to be afraid of him.

She is afraid of losing her job because after this there is no place she can go without ridicule. So she is staying put because to be ridiculed by an idiot with pay is better than to be ridiculed for free.

3. These staffers who continue to stay on know way more behind the scenes stuff

than they will ever let us know. (Unless they are gathering information for a tell all book that will break all the records in sales.) So they know exactly how crazed and unhinged tRump really is, but they continue to support him and his policies. You have to ask yourself why?? Only a few things make sense. There is fear because once tRump abandons you, you are dead to him. And he will tromp on your lifeless body with hobnail boots. Or they could be hanging on for the money since, as has been noted, finding another well paying job might be iffy. Or maybe it is information for that tell all book. And finally, there is the sad possibility that they are true believers and actually support the crap he spews.

I suppose at some point we will know which explanation clears up any confusion about why they continue to lie for him and remain on staff. No matter what the explanation, I think history will not be kind to them.
