Trump Administration: ACLU Should Take Lead in Reuniting Migrant Families

The Trump administration told a court Thursday that the American Civil Liberties Union should use its “considerable resources” to find the parents who have been separated from their children and deported by the government. The Associated Press reports that the government requested that the ACLU help find deported parents in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras who have been separated from their children under the Trump administration’s family separation policy. The organization, which sued the federal government on behalf of the separated parents, responded that the Trump administration “must bear the ultimate burden of finding the parents.” While the ACLU said it would help, it pinned “the crisis” on the government and said it would need to take “significant and prompt steps” to find deported parents on its own. The government has a database of home-country addresses but does not present any useful information for about 120 of the children currently in custody. According to the most recent count, 431 children were in U.S. custody while their parents were outside of the country.

I hear his kids made millions last year. Trump could donate some of his hat sale and luxury property accommodation bribe money to help fix the mess HE created.

CNN) The Trump administration says immigrant advocacy groups should be responsible for tracking down more than 500 parents who were separated from their children and deported without them.

In a court document filed Thursday as part of the ongoing lawsuit over separated families, the Justice Department suggested the American Civil Liberties Union should use its "network of law firms, NGOs, volunteers and others" to find the parents with information provided by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The administration is proposing that every Monday, the ACLU would share any new information about the parents it locates, including whether they wish to be reunited with their children.

"Not only was it the government's unconstitutional separation practice that led to this crisis, but the United States Government has far more resources than any group of NGOs," ACLU attorneys wrote.
