It's strange.
Trump is so blatantly a horrible, disgusting person and terrible leader that will decrease living standards for everyone except the extremely rich.
He is against, and is destroying, everything that makes America who we are but has gained an intense, fanatical following among "salt of the earth" Americans that worship him as a god.
Logically, based on the rule of law, he should be taken down soon.
By all reason the November elections should be a blue tsunami and with regained power the Democrats will evicerate him and condemn him to the trash bin of history but I'm not confident this will happen.
The fact that the Republican Congress seems to be actually encouraging Russian involvement in the election, enabling the hacking of voting results and extremist conspiratorial theories gaining popularity makes me wonder if the blue tsunami, that I'm sure will be real, will be able to happen. There are so many forces in power right now, here in the US and in Russia, that are working hard to manipulate the election and kill the anti-Trump movement.
I have little faith that the election will honestly reflect the electorate's will and worry that Trump will remain triumphant and have carte blanche to remake America in his own image.
It's scary and depressing.

(12,344 posts)Liberalism was ascendant for most of our lifetimes, but in the last few decades, authoritarianism has been creeping up. We didn't even notice until 2016. Now we are in the fight for our generation. As a previous generation fought for civil rights and another fought against fascism. We won those wars. But remember, it wasn't easy and they didn't know how it would turn out either.
Fight to win.

(7,395 posts)Watching the rise of this poisonous creed through the eighties and their absolute descent into scifi barbarism from the nineties on to this positively fungal low point has got me thinking the same thing.
Existential threats require strong hearts and clear minds. This is serious business.

(2,824 posts)I have been calling flip flop voters today- you know the ones who don't vote every election. They usually don't know who's running and don't know how they are going to vote and can be swayed. 80% of the ones I contacted were very motivated to vote. I am really enjoying taking to people who tell me they have already applied for their absentee ballot because they don't want to miss their opportunity to vote. Volunteering keeps me sane.

If the Russians had these magical powers, why do we keep winning special election after special election?

Did you replay that clip? That's what I'm talking about!
He controls the message, and he has absolute control over his followers, who would jump off a cliff it he told them to. He'd never lead them off the cliff himself, of course.
He has terrified the GOP until they are afraid to even suggest something about him which he might perceive as unfavorable, in which case the offender would be the subject of a Sunday morning tweet storm.
No matter how much his actions hurt them, Trump's followers just won't desert him. I heard a Republican Congresswoman on NPR this afternoon saying that companies in her district were being decimated by Trump's tariffs on the aluminum and steel they need to make their products (RVs, etc.). Her constituents are losing their jobs left and right, but she still supports Trump because, "I believe in his agenda."

(7,814 posts)struggle -- power grab -- by many of the world's top .1%. Crime families and oligarchs from around the world are watching and helping.
They won't just leave their fate, power, and wealth up to our 2018 midterms. The gop leadership knows this...it's why they are so quiet, going all in for team trump.
It's why there has to be a giant blue wave...close isn't enough.
