It's quite possible that he really believes he can talk his way out of Mueller's "witch hunt" by convincing him that there was NO COLLUSION!!! He's that delusional.

But seriously, he is DYING to talk, he really is.

He always likes to talk and lie lie lie. He loves it.

He would do it were it not for his attorneys because he has always done it in the past and NEVER paid a price for it other than a few lost lawsuits here and there which he doesn't ultimately pay for anyway since he borrows money from organized crime mass murderers in Russia.

Actually more than a few lost lawsuits. He is actually the single worst, most unsuccessful businessperson who ever lived.

If we could see his tax returns we would know that in addition to how much he owes putin, 1.7 billion.

Mueller can put Trump away and can use Trump's penchant for lying to assist him doing so

Kim Jong Un meeting was all for show.

Saying he'll talk with Mueller is also all for show.

He's never going to do it just like he's never going to get Kim Jong Un to do much meaningful about his nukes.

But there isn't a lawyer within 1000 miles of the White House who would describe such a meeting as a good idea for him.

It's probably the only reason why Mueller is playing along with him saying he is not a 'target'

Stupid as Trump is, even he confesses he's a target (of a 'witch hunt' according to Trump ...)

As stupid as Trump is, he or those around him have been smart enough to not get badly caught yet after decades of shenanigans.

I can't see Mueller agreeing to limit either number or subject of questions or to allowing some of those to be in writing in lieu of verbal.

Look, I'm not going to second guess him. If it's a legit story, Mueller must have his reasons. Perhaps it allows him to send a message, based on the questions asked. Or to provide disinformation, based on the questions asked.

Part of me thinks it's bullshit and his handlers are desperately trying to prop him up like he's not scared.

Part of me thinks he's the quintessential conman and he thinks that if he can con ordinary voters, he can also con the Special Counsel who is the former head of the FBI. (Spoiler alert: He can't.)

Trump doesn't want to appear so 'guilty" by publicly refusing the interview or by throwing up all kinds of preconditions (even though that's exactly what he's doing). This whole "i got nothing to hide" schtick is nothing but a fountain of bullshit for his idiot minions.

Just a Delay tactic, and meant to make his base think he wants to sit down for interview. It's never going to happen, and they're probably planning how to continue delaying Mueller's reaction as long as possible.

In Trump's mind, he can bully/buy/cajole/convince/charm/argue his way into Mueller's good graces. Mueller will apologize in tears and beg Trump for friendship, swearing undying loyalty.

Trump is ALL about his fragile ego and impression management. When someone does something well that reflects on him, he takes credit, when he does something that fails, he blames someone else. He needs to be constantly right, constantly loved, and constantly at the center of attention.

I am not sure how much insight he has into his situation. He may have bought into the lies he has told himself about being smarter than anyone and may genuinely believe that he can "deal" his way out of trouble, because he has done so throughout his career.

The cracks in his armor are the tweets where he projects his own psychological state of mind onto others. You get all of the, "Crooked Hillary" stuff when developments that are legally perilous come out. He would make a horrible poker player because he has major tells.

Trump is a scared little man who wants to project a brave and confident image.
