He's no Leni Riefenstahl.
Hat tip, Joe.My.God:
According to Politico Playbook, last night Jerry Falwell Jr. was spotted huddling with Donald Trump Jr. in the lobby of the Trump DC hotel after attending the red carpet premiere of Dinesh DSouzas latest deranged propaganda film, Death Of A Nation.
Then, purely by coincidence and at 2AM, Falwell posted the below tweet denouncing Jeff Sessions as a phony. Not incidentally, DSouzas film currently has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
From the review in the Hollywood Reporter:
The opening scene of Dinesh DSouzas new documentary depicts Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun committing suicide in their bunker. Long before the painfully unendurable Death of a Nation reaches its conclusion, viewers looking for their own way out will be feeling envious.
Were informed that the Nazi political platform could have easily been written by Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. That the Holocaust was inspired by the obliteration of the Indians by Jacksonian Democrats.
That eugenics was a progressive idea, and that the infamous Dr. Josef Mengele thought of himself as a progressive. That slavery was an extreme form of socialism and that the goal of the Democrats was to turn America into one big plantation. That the Ku Klux Klan was the domestic terrorism arm of the Democratic Party.

(4,066 posts)This is just part of the overall way these things are done. They take all the ills that have been done in the past and ascribe them to the current enemy. This movie may get slammed by people with a brain and an education but that's not who this movie was made for. This movie, and other propaganda like it, was made for the 45 Cult.
There will be a significant number of people who see this and believe it. They want to hate liberals and progressives and this will just confirm for them they are correct. They will not seek out alternative opinions or real facts.

(33,360 posts)I said LBJ drove the Racists into the GOP by signing the Civil Rights Act; he countered that he lived through that era and "didn't recall that", and that LBJ was the "ultimate Racist". As if the South hasn't voted GOP ever since.
In response, he called me a pussy.
History takes twists and turns, and if you're dumb, you get conned by half-truths and implications.
D'Souza is just making more content to keep pumping into the feeble brains of Trump Voters. It works on my Dad.

(57,567 posts)This is a very fair question I've gotten a lot this month, so I guess it's worth answering.
(And I'm speaking for myself here, but I'm sure others will chime in.)

Why are all the #twitterstorians arguing with Dinesh DSouza? Hes not a historian, hes just a right wing grifter and propagandist, hes not interested in truth and neither are any of his followers. Every time you argue with him youre just promoting him and increasing his sales.

(5,995 posts)But, Nixon with Lee Atwater (see the pics with Stone & Manafort) flipped the script and all that pent up racism following LBJ's Great Society wins found a welcoming home in the GOP. Now we have an openly traitorous Dotard rallying the walking brain dead that are their base.
Realize it is folly to critique the kind of trash put out by D'Souza, but the sheer volume of lies requires at least some push back.

(22,976 posts)And his home state, Arizona. The "script was flipped" in the early 1960s, with Southern resistance to the burgeoning the civil rights movement.
All those "Dixiecrats" became Republicans, when it was apparent that their racism was a better fit.

(9,350 posts)I am shocked by what so many so called Conservative are willing to give up in order to support Donald Trump. They seem to be willing to turn their backs on anyone who does not follow Donald Trump. Donald Trump would not be able to beat Jesus Christ in a general election, but if Jesus Christ tried to run in the Republican Party primary Donald Trump would beat him. Why? I do not understand why so many people seems to be willing to turn on people who supported their ideas, policies, agendas, and rules 20-30 years for someone who most likely does not support their policies currently.
I do not have to like Jeff Sessions to say he is no phony. Sessions has supported Conservatives ideas, and policies, for probably all of his life. Donald Trump is the true phony. It is Trump who has supported whatever ideas have been convenient for him. Not to long ago Trump was spouting Liberal talking points. His embrace of Conservative ideas was only a way to get himself elected after he became angered by the election of a black man.

(20,872 posts)The great thing about it is, they can just flip to wherever they need to be next after Trump is gone. Heck, Trump gone and George Will is popular, George Will is back in.
Their audience has shown time and time again they don't care about the script so long as they're winning. The politicians and pundits just want to easy money to be made off these dopes. There's no nation building, no governing philosophy here. There's just power and money at play.
I keep hearing how though things look bad for the old Republic everything is gonna be alright cause we out number them.
I don't think so.
The people who say that aren't counting every head. I can count heads pretty damn quick in any room, and the common wisdom is that we out number them. Them being the general run of the mill ignoramusess (ignorami ??) we are up against. And I think we do out number these ones, but only just. Say by 10-15 %. And from where I sit, there sides getting bigger all the time.
But here's the fallacy in that thinking, though we just outnumber the ignoramusess among us, there's another bunch that don't get counted. I'm talking about the out-and-out assholes. Sweet Jesus there's a damn sight of assholes around. Somewhere close to a third of us can be comfortably and reliably classified asshole.
Now if you add up the ignoramusess PLUS the assholes well then I say we are a solid minority.
I'm sorry to point this out, it gives me no great pleasure. But there it is.

....
The film, described by its producers as a 'documentary', compares Donald Trump to Abraham Lincoln and equates Nazism, white supremacy and fascism with "The Left".
Donald Trump Jr tweeted his support of Death of a Nation and co-hosted a screening in Washington DC - but it pulled in just US$2.3 million on its North American opening weekend, from a wide release of 1032 screens.

Critically, the movie has been eviscerated, with not a single positive review on aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and a measly 1 percent rating on Metacritic.
"If ever there was a movie that looked as if it had been slapped together in a couple of weeks as part of a quid pro quo agreement involving a dubious-seeming criminal pardon, Death of a Nation is that film," writes Peter Sobczynski at RogerEbert.com.
