is potentially the other first indigenous woman ever elected to Congress.

Haaland has been chair of the state Democratic Party and is tribal administrator of Laguna Pueblo.

I've met her once or twice and she's a very nice and approachable woman.

The incumbent in that seat, Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham is currently running for Governor, and will most likely win that race. The Republican running against Haaland is Janice Arnold-Jones who served in the state legislature 2003-2011, and did a genuinely good job of bringing openness to the state government. One huge problem in this state is corruption and cronyism -- it's as if the state wants to be New Jersey but just can't make it to the big time.

Overall this state trends strongly Democratic, although not so much in the southern part of the state, which is where the first district is.

I also used to live in Kansas's third district, did volunteer work for Dennis Moore, who held that seat from 1999 to 2011. It's a small world.

Perez is active in fostering positive relationships with them. While never enough, it is more thoughtful than in the past. Perez would like to see them get to nine members so they can form a caucus.

I've learned, from experience, not to get involved in Primaries where I don't know the voters and I don't know the issues. Once there's a nominee, I'll use my model to evaluate his/her prospects:
