Many of us have thought this...the Los Angeles Times says it!

Was the 2016 election legitimate?

( LA Times Op-Ed contributor, Virginia Heffernan)

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-heffernan-trump-illegitimate-20180728-story.html#

Short Excerpts:

"We need to talk about a forbidden subject: the legitimacy of the current president. There's been a code of silence around President Trump's shady victory in 2016. It's one of those tiptoe-around-it things that the American family just doesn't talk about. And for good reason....

...as more and more facts about Trump's incongruous victory emerges, the doubts gnaw harder - and grow harder to ignore...

...A nation devoted to majority rule has a minority president who squeaked into high office on an electoral college technicality...against most data projections...using voter supression...using Russian disinformation. And most chilling of all with a massive assist from the Russian military, which not only hacked the Democrats, but also hacked voting software, and a voting-system manufacturer.

...Trump has been desperately trying to get voters to 'move on' from the 2016 presidential election and to get special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to 'move on' from the Russia investigation.

...The remedy is to keep speaking up, work for electoral reform to restore free and fair elections, and of course let justice run its course in the form of the investigations into Russian interference and Trumpland complicity."

The electoral system must be abolished and replaced with majority rules. Period. No argument. It was a bad compromise by those writing the constitution to appease the southern states just as was its tolerance of slavery. The deleterious of both still continue to plague the nation. Throw in gerrymandering, voter suppression and outright abuse of the judicial system and we have an intolerable situation in which the minority rules.

IMO the Los Angeles Time should have gone further and questioned the legitimacy of the entire Republican Party not just the president. Republicans have consciously violated their oath to protect the US in their complicity with trump. They cannot be trusted to put the country and it citizens first. The continued existence of the republican political party need to be seriously discussed.

It publishes on Wednesday

"Are you going to believe me or what you see with your own eyes?" Groucho Marx

Last week, Donald Trump cautioned his supporters (29% of voter age Americans) that they should not believe what they saw and heard; only his words. Irony must be dead; this is the man who lies constantly. He’s told over 2000 public lies in a mere 19 months into a 4 year term. His supporters happily lap his nonsense up at the height of “2 scoops.”

As Trump tries to persuade that minority of Americans of his innocence, the wheels of the criminal justice system grind on; one after another confessing their crimes and telling of larger crimes by the international conspirators working to destroy the fabric of the western democracy.

“Was the 2016 election legitimate? It's now definitely worth asking the question” read a 7/28/2018 LA TIMES headline; all the signs point to NO.

The November 6th election is less than 100 days away. The Republicon congress has refused to protect our elections from treasonous election theft by failing to fund ballot box security. The foundation of our Republic (not to be confused with Republicons) is the Ballot Box. This is where a free society talks to their government officials and servants and votes their approval or disapproval.

Republicons have forgotten or are simply disregarding the tenets of democracy and their oaths to defend and protect the CONSTITUTION “from enemies both within and without.” Their only desire is to win. Once they “win” they can’t govern because they come from a place of greed. They allow their inner Golums to overcome their sworn duty to serve the People, instead demanding the People serve them.

One of the GOP’s favorite election theft techniques is voter purging. During the 2014 election cycle, 14 million voters were purged, in 2016, another 16 million voters. Make sure your vote is protected. Check VoterView.org often, especially if you are an occasional voter. Keep registration forms in your car to help others register. Contact your Secretary of State and demand safe paper ballots.
Protect your voice. Register. Vote on 11/6/2018.

This should be reprinted in every major newspaper in the U.S. The terminology should be used over and over again "illegitimate president". Tie it around the GOP's neck.

Then we need to do whatever we can to fix this and expose just how the illegitimacy came about so it doesn't happen again. I'm tired of the GOP stealing the presidency.
