A push of cool marine air is coming Tuesday! JFC its been insufferable. Ive been watering nonstop and the crispy, hot forest floor smells like its ready to ignite. (my trout are still alive, have a sprinkler going 24/7, just have to make until Tuesday!) Ive been in this location 47 years and Ive never seen anything like this.

(7,888 posts)I'm sure it is worse for those who don't have air conditioning or who are getting record breaking heat waves in the NW. Nothing in the forecast to give me hope of relief, how about your area?

(15,139 posts)We have had triple digit temps for the past three weeks and no end in the forecast. Along with the terrible smoke from the wildfires, it's nearly unbearable. My dog is frustrated that we haven't been for a walk in ages. Unhealthy air. Hope some of that cool air heads down in our direction. We could use some hard rain too.

We are leaving for the coast Wednesday and then up north to Canada luckily area no fires but will be checking.
I feel trapped in my house.

(41,990 posts)We picked a bad year to put in new plants. Or we might have to rethink what to plant. I dont like cactus that much.

(41,990 posts)Ive been fighting what landscapers did before we bought the place for two years, trying to do more natural or at least better domestic planting. But we had stuff going on in Spring that made us do things kind of late so the heat wave is hitting plants that Id hoped to have better established. I am happy to have more for the bees, butterflies and hummingbirds though. Theyre taking a beating these days.

(31,201 posts)the only major fire in WA is in Chelan area, but that's a reach for the smoke. I heard there is one just west of Mt Rainier but haven't heard anything yet.

(60,010 posts)Was born and raised there, till I moved away late 80's.... there have been hot spells, but a week of 80 or above on the
Western side of the Cascades is almost unheard of.
A week without rain is unheard of, come to think of it.

(7,768 posts)."CLIMATE...Sunday was the 8th day in a row with a high 85 degrees
plus in Seattle. The record for consecutive days with highs 85
degrees plus is 9 set in August 1977 and 1967. Yesterday was also
the 15th day in July with a high 85 degrees plus in Seattle. The
record number of 85 degree plus days for any month is 16 days in
August 1967.
For the second year in a row every day in July in Seattle will
have a high of 70 degrees or more. Since records started in the
1890`s this has only happened three times, this year, 2017 and
2015.
Today will make it 30 consecutive days in Seattle with a high of
70 degrees or more. This is the 7th year in a row Seattle has had
a streak of at least 30 days in a row with highs 70 degrees plus.
The number of times it happened from 1945 to 2011...7. "
I checked and the last 2 days it was 94 in Seattle. Probably hotter than that south of there. whew!
1 more day of this BS and it's back in the seventies!

(60,010 posts)I had a huge garden but growing things like tomatoes was very difficult, too much cloud cover, and usually not hot enough.

Gulp.
