the election is over, they focus on scaring moderates away from the democratic candidates
Democrats focus on scare moderates too, but they focus on scaring moderates away from themselves.

(15,143 posts)I remember how astounded I was (silly me) when Mitch McConnell refused to answer policy questions during his last election in 2014. "We won't talk about that now. There's time for that after the election."

They lie

Religious fanatics want abortion outlawed
Racists want to murder blacks legally (stand your ground)
They have their own state media outlets

(5,272 posts)They aren't coy about talking about tax cuts for the rich, attempting to build a wall, etc. Sure, then they do a whole lot of other horrible shit, but I totally disagree with you.
We on the other hand fail by not telling the American people what we are actually going to fight for. Watering down our message to what we consider a range of reasonable expectations amounts to what sounds mealy-mouthed and non-committal. And it is ultimately ineffective, because we end up compromising all the time with republican led congresses because we're afraid of what we might get instead. We take that threat entirely away when we offer our middling proposals that we think Republicans can stomach and they reject it, because the worst case now is something they can stomach. That isn't our job, that's their job to come to us with a reasonable compromise so that we don't pass what they are afraid of.
Now where republicans really lie is when it comes to what is actually wrong and what will actually fix the nation. Democrats are usually right in their diagnosis but then we spend all our time explaining why our hands are tied and we can't or shouldn't do anything about the problem.

And they didn't tell voters that the next step is to get rid of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid because the tax cuts are sending the deficits spiraling
