(58,785 posts)at all levels with conservatives for some decades now, the upper levels with graduates of schools in universities they created through large endowments specifically to turn out people who think as they want them to. Who then move, in some cases assisted, into positions of eventual responsibility and authority in virtually all significant aspects of society.
I read a few years ago that, at that time, UCLA was the only major university that had not allowed itself to be bought, to accept endowments for the teaching of ideas that were once almost universally considered intellectually dishonest and invalid.

(58,785 posts)This affirmative action of hiring conservatives who "think right" has been going on for a very long time, of course. And most politicians also have law degrees.

(2,276 posts)He was previously left leaning, then he graduated from law school and is now rabidly right wing, watches Fox News and is unapproachable. It broke my heart to see him change like that. I didnt think of the possibility that law schools might groom students to have a specific political outlook.
My daughter graduated from college last year with a political science degree and hasnt known what to do with it. Now she wants to go to law school to focus on immigration law, due to the immigration crisis (of our governments making).
Arent there also a lot of liberal attorneys teaching law students as well?

(1,117 posts)Most college professors are liberals because smart people see through the right wing propaganda machine.
So of course there are a lot of liberal law professors.
The problem is that there is massive right wing affirmative action that promotes the few right wing law students. So guys like Kavanaugh or Clarence Thomas would likely be nobodies if they were liberals. Especially Thomas - its SO ironic he rails against affirmative action. Because he has massively benefited from affirmative action, just not racial affirmative action rightwing billionaire-funded legal affirmative action. Hes a weak legal mind and hes been brainwashed by the right as well. Sad.

(2,276 posts)When the Democrats are back in power (and I have to hope they will be), they need to overturn Citizens United. I think they should put into the platform that they dont accept corporate money, to show that we are the party of people while Republicans are the party of corporations.
I agree that Clarence Thoma is not only a weak legal mind but a weak mind all around.
Im glad to hear there are a lot of liberal law professors. I think some fields appeal to conservatives, such as those in finance. I would think a lot of people in these professions are right wing.

(1,117 posts)Congress can pass a lot of laws to limit the effect of the Republican justices Cit u decision.
We just need a Dem majority - and a president that will sign them.
No constitutional amendments or SCOTUS decisions are required.
