Americans' Grasp Of Geography Hits New Low (Trust Us) On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

America’s ignorance of geography is off the charts in this “Jimmy Kimmel Live” segment from Thursday.

The host used President Donald Trump’s European trip to emphasize how it is everyone’s responsibility to have knowledge of the world. So the show conducted a test on the streets.

Passers-by were asked to point to a country ― any country ― on a map of the world.

They couldn’t do it, not even for the United States.

“Shouldn’t I be taught this in school?” asks one woman.

Another says she went to college ― “That’s the sad part.”

Finally, along comes a whiz kid to restore our faith in all that is good about actually knowing where places are on this planet.

A case can be made that education is lacking in this country. Bits like this are edited for laughs.

I wonder how many people they went through to get those they got here.

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh, people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future. I know almost every country and every capital in the world, but I grew up in a place where education was paramount. Smart people were admired and not looked down upon. Now it seems to be the exact opposite. I am speechless. I can't believe how ignorant these people are.
