It is very simply, he is making promises to people who are in a desperate state that is much of their own doing. It is the masses of lower educated people who can no longer get employment performing routine jobs at relatively high pay. The facts are that 85% of the loss of jobs is attributable to automation. It is estimated that an additional 13% of these types of jobs are subject to automation. Trump is seen as a savior while in fact he is a demagogue, no different than all the dictators who have risen to power by exploiting the situation. Hilary Clinton was far more factual in acknowledging that there no hope that these jobs will be magically reappear. It is the same with those that have been outsourced that account for approximately 10%. The fact is that what Trump was promising was the same that was being offered by Sanders. The cure was going to be tariffs. There no difference basically what Sanders was saying and what Trump ran and won on.

As for Europe, they have first hand experiences of being duped by fascist demagogue dictators and have suffered the consequences. I think that they are far more wary of their propaganda. As the old adage goes you can fool some of the people all the time.....

The media and the same people who bolster him. They can promote him 24/7 then say whatever number they want. they need 40% to justify Congress etc. 40% is too high a number imho. Just bc they say it...doesn't make it so. Rich folks need a 30-40% favorability and thats what they say. He's just THAT BAD. See the rest of the world.
The folks who relly love him are in small pockets...Like backwoods Appalachia, Ohio...Alabama...on and on. I just think they've been foisting that number so long, that we begin to believe it. I see VERY VERY few dt stickers on cars. W had supporters all the way through, and we saw W stickers to this day. Just my humble O.

What you're saying is that thousands of people (working for a wide array of pollsters, including Gallup and CNN and many others that have been around for ages) are in cahoots, and nobody has blown the whistle.

By the way, I've seen quite a few Trump stickers (and other stickers that indicate right wing support) throughout the Pacific Northwest.

I definitely think it's important to recognize that 'approval of' and 'enthusiasm for' are two different things, and hopefully enthusiasm for Trump is not very high. But it seems pretty clear that his approval rating is right around 42% with a disapproval rating right around 53%.

Every poll I've seen has him in that range of upper-30s to mid-40s.

I think we have to accept that 40% or so really do approve of that asshole.

I believe they already have political profile sheets figured out. Let's face it, that data is out there. Even Facebook is tracking whether you are hard right conservative, conservative, liberal or hard left. And they're kind enough to show you in your own profile information,

In other words, I don't believe poll companies are cold calling.

by various polls.

On yet another hand, I've never been called to jury duty despite always being a registered voter for nearly fifty years and having a drivers license, the other way they get jury pools.

Some things are just the luck of the draw.

And that's the best case. If they are not ignorant, then they are racist, sexist scumbags who want to see the world burn. Maybe because it's difficult to keep their white superiority once they are a minority, or for whatever reason.

They just like him. All the pollsters see him at 30% or higher approval.

Hard to wrap your head around it. Not sure how to fix it. I'm not even sure how we (EU) can be allied with a country that has so many horrible voters. And the worst part is, EU voters are not that much better in that regard. Maybe the world is meant to burn because the dominant species is unable to live in peace.

I’ve been feeling so low...but I am inspired by this love and passion for what’s right. Europe has our back but they are also fighting for their own life and safety. I mean this sincerely, the Londoners are the finest people in the world. They are so hip to our problems and they can see through the orange asshole. The British media are not blowing smoke up their asses the way most of our media does.

Thank you London! Thank you Britain and UK! We'll always remember this outpouring of affection and concern from you.
