Once I got over being gobsmacked fundamentalist Christians were actually living the faith they profess, I'd similarly applaud that their offer serves to keep the issue on the radar.

I'd be more comfortable if this were a secular community making the offer, but wonder if this isn't a shaming stunt. I don't doubt they are sincere and absolutely would take care of the children if given the opportunity. But I don't think they actually expect to be taken seriously by HHS.

I'd pretend being an invited guest is equivalent to captivity too if I had nothing of substance to offer, regardless of irrelevancy of thanks.

then that's what is happening right now. Only difference is it's costing the taxpayers $700 dollars per day per child.

The judge has ordered that all the children be reunited in less than two weeks. By the time all the logistical arrangements were made, and housing was approved, and transportation was carried out, there would probably be very little time till the required reunifications.

That said, their stunt is a bit of GOP shaming. And I don't mind that.

Other than that, churches often take in local and regional refugees in emergencies. For example, Catholic dioceses in TX, FL, MS and LA housed just over 2500 displaced New Orleans residents in long-term residences.

But maybe the churches should have refused the offer and petulantly told them "oh well, what would you say?" to look more clever than reality may warrant.

What a consistent set of inaccuracies you've achieved of late.

It would not be correct to hand these children over to any religious group. To have these children put in the hands of people who quite possibly were not of their families' faith might well further complicate the issue.

Money should not be a question for the richest country in the world.

the same as their families faith is that most of the religious people they happen to placed with now are far right fundamentalist Christians whose faith does not even come close to most of the children's familie's faith. Most of those children are either another type of religion or Catholic.

to care for all the families of the 2300, that would be fantastic.

But they're only offering to hold the children till they're reunited with their parents -- which should be in less than two weeks. I'm not sure disrupting them again, and transporting the again, before the reunification is for their good.

to get them situated in approved locations with the Muslim community in Florida before the reunification deadline, unfortunately.

The government has rules they follow on placing children, and they haven't been making exceptions even for relatives of the children -- which is part of why this has been so slow. They're not going to make an exception for these volunteers.

Those don't apply to the trumpanzees

One tweet from *45 about this (to change the subject from his disastrous trip and the NK debacle) and the propoganda machine will take over. They will spin it so much that if these kids spend 1 day with a Muslim community, that day was spent learning about Sharia law, training for suiccide bombings, and how to rent a van to pay back for what the US just did to them. They have no sense of decency. Let alone logic and reason. That's the cynic in me talking.

Again, fantastic story and I wish these kids nothing but the best
