Saw "The Dark Knight Rises" this weekend. *SPOILERS*

I wasn't really interested -- until I read that part of the plot was a populist uprising. It wasn't pretty once escaped psychos from the prison got involved. And the "death or exile" bit made the whole idea worthy of a movie by itself. It seemed to be modeled on the French Revolution. It was fascinating, and makes me wonder if a real uprising here would devolve so badly.

and how unsympathetic movies (and our culture in general) have become to the plight of the common man . very élitist movie.

during the court scenes when it came to 'death or exile'. Seeing one of the old villains (don't want to spoil too much) as the judge helped to confirm my thoughts.

As to an uprising here in the states - yes, I feel that it would be very similar to what we saw in the film.

I don't know if he was supposed to be the same character or not, but it was the same actor.

While the police beating them up were the good guys. The politics of the movie sucked and the rest of the story was filled with huge plot holes. I liked the first two movies, the third was a huge disappointment. If you want to see a comic book movie series with much better politics watch the X-Men series, they have some surprisingly strong commentary on racism, militarism and the loss of civil liberties.

pro-prison, anti-popular subjectivity ... i'm watching it and i'm like "what else does this movie want to warn me about the dangers of? poetry? big friendly dogs?" yeesh. what a mess it was. the t-mobile girl was a good catwoman though.

I never saw any common people doing much besides being threatened. I saw members of the League of Shadows and members of Gotham's organized crime syndicates running the city while the rest of the people were threatened with a nuke. I really don't see the Occupy parallels. As for the police yeah that part was annoying, but Nolan's franchise hasn't been too positive on them as a whole. Remember Batman Begins when they are portrayed as corrupt bullies? I actually thought Dark Knight was more right-wing with Batman spying on the city.

and judging by the incarceration rate in this coutnry, i'm sure there's at least a smattering of common ppl in the prison population

the uprising isnt even allowed to fail or succeed on its own terms, because that nuclear whatever is set to explode after 5 mos. which is a weird kind of self-sabotaging on the villains' part. makes the whole takeover less of a social experiment and more of an exercise in futility (much like the movie itself)
