I've been married thirty years as of tomorrow. In all that time, gays never threatened me.

My wife and I never once sat down to discuss what would happen if the gay got the same civil rights we did.

In thirty years, it just never came up. "What about the gays?! It might threaten our marriage! What will we do if "they" marry?

I've attended two legal, real gay weddings in the passed couple of years. My wife and have never discussed divorcing because of the crazy lezbo weddings and how they threatened us.

I'm sensing deep homophobic bullshit here.

I just don't care about what two consenting adults do in their bedroom.

Why is the Religious Right so uncomfortable with it? Is it because gay people defy traditional gender roles? Well, fuck the sexists.

I just don't get it. Maybe it's a power/insecurity thing?

with a gay daughter. My daughter lives with her partner and we love her as a member of the family. Not only has it not threatened our marriage, my husband's son and his wife are rightwing fundies, and as far as I know, once they found out his sister was gay his marriage didn't suffer any negative consequences. He did tell my daughter how "disappointed" he was in her. Maybe that's why she kept it a secret from him for 5 years!

Yep, all is well in the marriages in this family, even with a lesbian trying to undo our unions! I knew she was trouble when she was born...

than 2% of the population. If that were true, I would say their marriages are pretty damn fragile if 2% of the population can wreck their marriage and 98% of the population can't save them.

& someday our gay friends will be able to celebrate marriages this long.
Had a "discussion" on FB with a conservative friend, she had no answers:
1. Give me one good reason why gay couples should be denied the federal benefits of marriage: filing joint tax returns, social security, etc. also issues like health insurance
2. Tell me again how a gay couple's marriage will threaten yours.

Where do you live?

I'm writing a Stern Letter to Gay Central Committee and find out who is in charge of ruining hetero marriages in your area.

This is inexcusable.

Expect SCADS of Teh Gays on your door step very soon.

I suggest having loads of cocktail mixers & booze - & really an outstanding DJ - on hand wouldn't hurt.

I know that teh gays look at me and want me to leave my wife for them.
They give me that certain look and are tempting me. If they think they could take me from my loving hetero relationship
and turn me into one of them, the pressure would not stop.
I thank God we are keeping marriage between a man and his wife.

Grew up in the Villlage down the street from the Stonewall. Cat sat for the gay couple upstairs when I was 10. My Aunt raised my cousin with her partner back in the 50s.

Married 38 years to the same man who had a gay Uncle. His sister has 2 out of 4 kids kids who are gay. We had 2 kids, and one is gay.

If none of this destroyed our STRAIGHT marriage, let alone the fact that he is a Republican, what WOULD????

It's their precious little ones they worry about. Society accepting gay marriage might send the "wrong" signal and little Billy Joe might "decide" to be gay (which affects his probability of ending up in a traditional marriage.) This is so wrong in multiple ways, starting with the idea that people can just choose their sexuality and ending with the idea that one must set an "acceptable" example for OTHER people's children.
