Would you stay in the US if Romney was elected?

(53,661 posts)In fact, I believe that many of us would not survive, literally, a Romney term. The man is psychopath and so are his supporters. There would be another war started and a draft, and the population would be put under an austerity that would kill millions and he'd laugh. I'm not kidding, those are my gut feelings about these people. Look what they have been doing since 2010.

(7,804 posts)I'm really not sure how the rest of the world would react, either. Nobody's cutting him aaaaany slack overseas at ALL. Everybody nominally politically powerful at least attemped to look polite to Dubya but... not this time.
I'm worried.

(197 posts)People have very dramatic answers. For better or for worse its very difficult to relocate to another country, especailly one that has employment opportunities.
But, yes, I could live under Romney. I don't want to, but I don't think it will kill me.

(197 posts)There are a lot of factors that could tip his way. The State of Michigan has almost all of cities with a majority African American population under "Emergency Management". The stage is ripe for election fraud to tip in Romneys favor, or perhaps just old fassioned voter supression.
Obama won some states by small margins, and there is going to be a backlash against the incumbent. The best thing Romney has going for him is that he isn't Obama. Some voters will pick him because their lives have not improved and they're willing to give someone new a shot- we call these people "degenerate morons who probably cannot read and believe in the skygod" or "swing voters". But they are out there.
I think that thinking Obama will win can lead to laziness....on all of our parts. We have to think that Obama MUST win.

(22,143 posts)It's not the President that's the problem, it's the Congress. Even if the President wins a second term we're still going to have this teabagger congress and nothing will continue to get done. I just don't see us getting the House back. Not with citizens united money crushing us in every race. We're going to be lucky to hold the Senate as well.
If Romney wins, is there a chance they'll release money and start doing the projects they've been holding back?
In most cases I would say yes because they'll want to take credit for bringing jobs back and getting the economy on track. But with the nutcases that are winning for them I'm not so sure. I think these guys are serious and would send us into a death spiral. You think things are bad now? This is nothing compared to what they'll do to us. I think we will literally see people starving in the streets and chaos on a grand scale. It will get ugly, real ugly.
It's not Romney that scares me, it's his sponsors.

To answer your question, of course. Not well, happy or looking towards a brighter future, but I'd survive...for a minute.

(25,406 posts)The reality is that the Republicans are very unlikely to have 60 senators, so the Dems would be able to filibuster most of what Romney wanted. Certainly with Obama winning things would be fairer and more tolerant, but contrary to the hypetbole of some here, a Romney victory would not be the dawn of a terrifying fascist dictatorship.

(12,537 posts)for Social Security and propping up unions and Johnson for signing the Medicare bill, I live pretty good with my union pension. I've always worried about those less fortunate and who struggle constantly with trying to make ends meet. We should thank Mr Obama and the democrats who against extreme pressure from the right we passed the ACA and the Pres signed it into law. I also thank Supreme court Justice Roberts for doing the right thing and being the deciding vote for keeping the ACA law in place.

(16,984 posts)Of course you wouldn't.
That's my answer with the a potential Romney win. I've seen people who had absolutely no business reaching the presidency do so, and I stayed, and will stay.
That said, it would be a damnably stupid thing to do, electing Romney, and I mean to work for Obama's reelection.
So treat the disease of ignorance and wrongheadedness. Work for an Obama win, but if Romney gets in, work for progressive policies and against Romney's.
