Dale is a reporter for the Toronto Star, he has been following trump & live tweeting the rallies for quite awhile. As a political tactic, it is very smart and appeals to the worst of our fellow citizens biases, wants & needs.
Daniel Dale (@ddale8) Tweeted:
How these rallies work for Trump no matter how weird the content of his speeches: local media, especially TV but also newspapers, tends to cover them as "president comes to town, draws big crowd, criticizes local Democrat" stories regardless of what he says. https://t.co/K47pMQYZvw

(82,849 posts)Trump bypasses the usual national filters, and gets a lot of local coverage. The people of wherever he's appearing, regardless of whether they go to the rally or not, get a full blast of undiluted, uncritical coverage of Trump from the time Air Force 1 is spotted approaching the airport to wheels up. There's lots of local excitement, local pride is stirred up, and the TV and the newspapers easily fill time and column inches with by-the-numbers reporting.
Democrats should be staging rallies, too.
