"Google Shopping is becoming a commercial site."
I just received the above pop-up notice (with multiple pop-up blockers fully engaged) while pricing an oxygen sensor for my car, which I may need to pass a smog check, if prior years experience with smog inspection and surveillance is any guide. KaChing.
In capitalism, the only mechanism that appears to lower prices is competition, so I hope that there will be other virtual price comparison sites that are at least as comprehensive as Google Shopping used to be. There have been other price comparison sites over the years, some good and some terrible (endless clicking only to find there is no product actually being sold, perhaps these types of frauds were just based upon click income). At least with Google Shopping, most of the search returns seemed to lead to products that were, in fact, for sale.
Since Google Shopping is becoming a commercial site, their search returns will probably be biased instead of comprehensive, undermining any competition the service may have embraced in the past.
So, feel free to list left-wing and progressive alternatives to it in the thread below.
