The above image, provided by NASA, shows the Mars Curiosity rover as it deployed its parachute for landing on the Martian surface. NASA engineers successfully guided the rover’s descent, with the Curiosity touching down around 1 a.m. eastern time early Monday morning.

but what about the common people? Oh yeah, these people will trickle down, well maybe, but it's not really much to brag about.

On a different note - can anybody tell me how they kept up near instantaneous communication with the Rover?
