(31,849 posts)1) What would the Human response be to a Martian version of Curiosity?
2) What will the human response be should Curiosity encounter a Martian life form?
My experience with respect to human nature suggests that neither would work out well.

(18,115 posts)Incapable of sending a rover to Earth and the human response to finding it should be exhilaration and examination.

(39,313 posts)for instance a gas that has intelligence. Just sayin'

(31,849 posts)On both statements?
Not doing something is not the same as incapable of doing something.
Secondly, I believe ... based on human history ... if there is exhilaration, the examination will be quickly followed by fear and weaponization.

(18,115 posts)For evolution of a species capable of designing and building spacecraft, the entire planet would be stemming with life.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)limiting?
Is it possible that any higher life that might be found did not evolve on that planet?
Or, how about a life form that dwells below the surface of the planet?
Or, what if the life form is just way smarter than us humans, where it would take far fewer to have the design/build capacity?
Or, how about a life form that just has no desire to establish contact with this planet?

(18,115 posts)cosomogists and have dealt with those questions. They just aren't supported by science. There are almost certainly higher life forms in the universr. Possibly some that have the ability (technology and proximity) to reach us and choose not to or haven't tried yet. But, I doubt it. And they definitely aren't on Mars. We've had pretty close observation of Mars for over a decade. If we find any signs of life, it will be long dead or microbial.

(31,849 posts)Your response would be accurate if you were to amend it to say:

(39,313 posts)Then the Martians won't pull out the death ray -- and we won't nuke it!
Let's hope "cute" is universal. They keep describing the Rover as the same size as a Mini coupe, a car that is "cute" but which I personally find extremely annoying. Those cars think they are motorcycles and slip around corners without obeying the rules, etc.
