Everyone in the federal government has not gone mad. Most, are doing their jobs trying to help the best that they can. And you might say..Well give me an example of what you are saying. Here is an example of a group of people who work for the federal government who are warning people about a dangerous condition. Hit the link and you will see the official weather forecast for the area that I live in. The people at the federal government...the national weather service, are warning people about the heat and the danger that it presents.. Strong warning, take a look. Even on a Sunday these people are doing their job.

(3,666 posts)They wanted to abolish it in 2011. Said private industries could do it better.
"The National Weather Service (NWS) was founded in 1870. Originally, the NWS was not a public information agency. It was a national security agency and placed under the Department of War. The Services national security function has long since disappeared, but as agencies often do, however, it stuck around and managed to increase its budget.
Today the NWS justifies itself on public interest grounds. It issues severe weather advisories and hijacks local radio and television stations to get the message out. It presumes that citizens do not pay attention to the weather and so it must force important, perhaps lifesaving, information upon them. A few seconds thought reveals how silly this is. The weather might be the subject people care most about on a daily basis. There is a very successful private TV channel dedicated to it, 24 hours a day, as well as any number of phone and PC apps. Americans need not be forced to turn over part of their earnings to support weather reporting.

(24,005 posts)This SOB is a one man wrecking crew.
One of the most infuriating aspects of all of it is that he, himself, doesn't even give a rat's ass about most of the of the issues to which he gives lips service with his ugly mouth.

(4,723 posts)IIt is clear, precise and I can quickly find forecasts and data through the NWS website. No commercials, no weather infotainment, no BS.

(980 posts)I often saw that people had The Weather Channel on their desktop. When I removed it and replaced it with the NWS site, with their local weather, they were amazed at how accurate it was, and how much faster it was to load than The Weather Channel. So I just had to inform them, that the NWS has been paid for by them, and that the Weather Channel has to rely on ads which take up a lot of time to load. I also told them that the data that the Weather Channel is exactly the same as the data from NWS. Most of them left the NWS site shortcut on their desktop.
