Top Trump prospect for open Supreme Court seat claims presidents are above prosecution and investigations: reportMartin Cizmar 29 JUN 2018 AT 20:32 ET
Brett M. Kavanaugh was a clerk for retiring Justice Anthony M. Kennedy and now serves on the District of Columbia Circuit court.
In the past, hes argued that the president should not be distracted by civil lawsuits, criminal investigations or even questions from attorneys while in office.
But, despite that stance, Kavanaugh worked under Ken Starr as one of the attorneys investigating Bill Clinton.
Kavanaugh is a Roman Catholic who opposes abortion rights.

(10,024 posts)Should recuse themselves in matters directly related to Trump's presidential powers.
Of course, this will do nothing to help protect abortion rights, civil rights, labor rights, consumer rights, minority rights, etc. but it would curb Trump from pardoning himself for illegalities and trying to exercise dictatorial powers in the name of national security or just because he feels like doing something (because when you are a celebrity president and you stack the Supreme Court with Justices loyal to you, they let you do it).
