Saudi Arabia says that King Salman has spoken to President Donald Trump, but gave no mention of the 2 million barrels of extra production the American leader tweeted about earlier in the day.
A statement on the state-run Saudi Press Agency on Saturday afternoon said: During the call, the two leaders stressed the need to make efforts to maintain the stability of oil markets and the growth of the global economy.
It added that there also was an understanding that oil-producing countries would need to compensate for any potential shortage of supplies. It did not elaborate.
Trump tweeted earlier Saturday that he has received assurances from King Salman that his kingdom would increase oil production, maybe up to 2,000,000 barrels, in response to turmoil in Iran and Venezuela.

President Donald Trump says he has received assurances from King Salman of Saudi Arabia that the kingdom will increase oil production, maybe up to 2,000,000 barrels, in response to turmoil in Iran and Venezuela.
Trump says on Twitter Saturday that he asked Salman to increase oil production to make up the difference...Prices to (sic) high! He has agreed!
His comments come as oil prices have edged higher as his administration pushes U.S. allies to end oil purchases from Iran.
The OPEC cartel recently agreed to pump 1 million barrels more crude oil per day. Trumps claim of a 2-million-barrel increase for Saudi Arabia alone does not specify a timeframe.
There was no immediate acknowledgment from the Saudi Royal Court that the conversation took place. Officials didnt immediately respond to a request for comment.

(7,947 posts)He's not just a liar. He wants to reward the Saudis because they treated him like a potentate when he visited them right after the inauguration.
Qatar, Iran... whoever the Saudis want to damage, Trump's all up with that.

(11,885 posts)He knows its a disaster from the barrel prices going through the roof from what it was under the stable President Obama's term. Just like everything else he's done , this was probably allowed to help ..... Putin and russia while hurting the American people . His supporters are watching him hurt us over and over again to help putin , and hurt them . Eventually they will realize he's nothing but a con man selling us out for his personal gains. Just like we'll soon expose that he did that with NK for lucrative business deals , again for his personal gains from, and like his immigration policies, for profits for the private prison industry and profits.

(15,805 posts)His base will only see that their Dear Leader has once again done something wonderful and neither the mean media or the dastardly Dems will give him the credit he deserves. He gets away with every lie because his base will never see the factchecking; they don't care about the truth as much as they worship Trump. Trump's screaming propaganda messaging machine is far more effective than the lone voice in the wilderness who is calmly reporting the truth without passion or prejudice.
