The "unwitting" part certainly fits, on a couple of levels. He is ignorant as fuck, but also thinks he is furthering his own agenda (enrichment and ego boosting, the twin engines of his pathology) while in fact he is furthering Putin's (weakening the US and destroying the Western alliance).
