The right, red bars are siding with the conservatives, the left, blue one - siding with the liberals.
What is interesting is the last section is for the years 2017-2018.
(The top one is for 1995-1996).
(These graphs are from the WSJ, managed to get the graph, but not the labels).

Dunno that anyone claimed he was a "centrist". They just noted he voted w the "liberals" occasional

I think he was more of a traditional libertarian, against government and pro personal rights. This year, however...
