I am a Democratic activist. I get involved on day one. I serve as the party chairman in my ward. I have attended every Democratic State convention in my state for 20 years. I register voters and serve on Union PACs. But any Democrat, to me, is OK to sit as my President.
I think that if more Democrats said, "hey, I will vote in the primary, but will avoid all the campaigning that causes the bad blood that is exploited by the fucking fascists to cost us the General" we'd all be better off. My campaigning and donating will begin once the nominee is apparent and has locked up the nomination. If more Democrats refuse to put their heart and soul into the campaigning in the primaries and we decide, "I like so and so better than him or her, but I'm not getting involved until the choice is made", we may be able to avoid the horrible divisions that cost us the Presidency on more than one occasion.
You see, on workers' rights, on women's rights, on civil rights, on voting rights, on immigrants' rights, on the environment and especially on Supreme Court Justice nominations, every Democrat is acceptable to me.
So, I say to my fellow Democrats, pick someone and call me when you do, and I will work my ass off for that person. I trust your judgement.

(8,652 posts)If Biden, Kamala, or KG wins the nomination, that person will be God to me. I will donate, actively support and campaign like my life depended on it.
to hold back and just vote is exactly what Trumpsters want. You make my point.

(90 posts)I look for the campaigning to be banal and non-negative. Everyone knows what the stakes are and will rally behind the winner.
Everyone with a brain anyway.

(8,053 posts)"Everyone knows what the stakes are and will rally behind the winner.....Everyone with a brain anyway." I wish I felt that way. Some people didn't learn from 2000 -Hello Susan Sarandon! And some people simply won't "accept" a candidate who DOESN'T BELIEVE EVERY SINGLE THING THEY BELIEVE- WHO WON'T SUPPORT EVERY SINGLE ISSUE THEY SUPPORT- AND BY GOD IT'S A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE!!! IMHO, that's a big part of the problem.

(15,646 posts)favoring one candidate over others during the primary are two different things. I like it.

(7,888 posts)It's a habit that gives me satisfaction. There is something about getting involved enough to know each candidates position, follow coverage on the campaign trails, finding out how their campaign is funded, looking for them to spend the most time, unless asked, on their own qualifications for the job. yada, yada, yada and voting for the person who I think is best qualified and has the best chance to GOTV.
Like you, whoever wins the primary will have my support in the General.

(8,652 posts)I intend to vote in every election. But in most elections I become an impassioned advocate for the candidate I favor. I will knock on doors, engage voters, organize, register voters, donate money and such. While doing all that work, one becomes bonded with the candidate. I have always been able to transition to the general and just as passionately support the nominee if my candidate loses, as I did in 2008.
It seems first timers have trouble with that transition. This is not about me being able to make that transition, it's a way of setting an example for others who may not be able to keep their eyes on the prize. We can't have primary supporters of a candidate declare, "if my candidate doesn't get nominated, I don't care who wins" (re: Susan Sarandon). I just turned that around, "my candidate is the Democratic nominee, and don't care who wins the nomination".
