Trump to Harley Davidson: 'Don't get cute with us'

President Donald Trump on Thursday had a message for Harley-Davidson: “Don’t get cute with us.”

The president’s comments, which were made at a groundbreaking in Wisconsin for a Foxconn plant, were the latest attacks he‘s made on the motorcycle company after it announced it would move some of its manufacturing to Thailand to avoid expensive tariffs on bikes sold in the European Union.

The EU tariffs were in direct response to moves by Trump to hike steel and aluminum tariffs on European countries and others.

“Harley Davidson, please build those beautiful motorcycles in the USA, please, OK? Don’t get cute with us,” he said. “Don’t get cute. They don’t realize their taxes are coming way down, they don't realize that yet.

“Build them in the USA, your customers won’t be happy if you don‘t,” he said.

HD was already planning the move months ago. They are just using the tariffs as a cover. Most of the people that buy HD bikes in the US are dying or are too old to ride. They sell over 50% of their inventory overseas .. so its cheaper to build them over there.

That is the root cause of Harley moving some production to Europe. If they build them there, they avoid th he tariff.

We need a gathering of bikes rolling around the WH and the National Mall sometime in the near future.

I've ridden in several and the guy in the WH needs to be impressed with an all day show of Harleys and any other bike rolling around the area. I mean a constant bike noise. My bike is quiet and if any loud pipe bike wants to ride along.

Drop the tariffs. Harleys are built in in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

He's made a big point of appealing to the Harley riders and the Corporation. The system of steel was not broke. He broke it.

How many bankruptcies has he been involved in? Six. Harley has/had a marketing/production system that was working around the world.

He is a one man wrecking crew. He needs to be "resigned".
