Joe needs a smackdown... Obama did not have a Democratic filibuster proof Congress for 2 years!!!

Last edited Mon Aug 6, 2012, 07:21 AM - Edit history (1)

Joe says that almost every morning and the other dolts say nothing to correct him. That was only true for about 60 days because of Kennedy and Byrd being ill and because Al Franken had not yet been seated!

According to Wiki, he was. "On February 15, 2007 Johnson marked his return to Senate work by co-sponsoring his first piece of legislation since his illness, the Emergency Farm Relief Act of 2007.[16], Johnson returned to his full schedule in the Senate on September 5, 2007 to both tributes and standing ovations.[17] His speech, although much improved, continues to be affected by his stroke."

But still, Killer Joe is wrong.

on most anything. So, yes, there was a Democratic majority for two years, but:

1. Republicans invoked the filibuster, need 60 for cloture
2. Cowardly Democrats went along with Republicans on major legislation (for instance, demanding more tax cuts in the stimulus package).

So, either way it goes, nothing much could get done in the Senate. Most legislation came out of the House, thanks to Nancy Pelosi and the brave men and women serving in the House majority.

Because they don't actually read or prepare for the show, many times they are still on yesterdays talking points. You can tell from the ladykiler what todays 'pug points are supposed be but in general they are ill-informed and just plain lazy and it shows big time ...

Today was a typically stupid show, they have 3 'kin HOURS to talk about what is about to be a huge huge story after the press conference later: that the shooter in WI was a ex army white power nut who maybe killed 6 people thinking they were Muslims!!! Instead, they barely mention it in between Olympic news and the VP sweepstakes bullshit.

Or maybe the got the word that the white boy shooter story is gonna get squashed, after all the victims were not "real Americans"... Today will be very telling about the current state of the MSM...

BTW, Nicky Haley and 'Lil Bobby Jindal are not going to be happy defending the NRA position on this one are they???

Lately CNN has been destroying Joe in terms of "news" in the morning. They go in depth, they spend time on a story, they don't just have the same four or five "guests" every day spouting the party line. You can they're trying to regain some respectability. Meanwhile, Morning Joe becomes increasingly irrelevant.

Mon Aug 6, 2012, 10:03 AM

Of course, he isn't, but if he took time to think it through, he'd realize that if we had a filibuster-proof majority, the Health Insurance bill would have included the Public Option, which is what Obama really wanted from the start, but instead he had to water it down considerably just to get Olympia Snow's vote.

And by the way, the Health Insurance package would have passed immediately, rather than dragging on for months the way it did.

I swear, the GOPers do this rewriting history stuff on a regular basis, apparently because they believe most Americans are too stupid to know the truth.

Ben Nelson threatens filibuster
Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) said Thursday that he would prevent health reform from moving to final passage if restrictions on federal funding for abortion weren’t tightened during the amendment process. But, he added, “there are a lot of other things that could keep me from supporting it in the end as well.

Breaking: Ben Nelson votes for FinReg filibuster with his Republican buddies

The president's nominees, especially to the Supreme Court, deserve an up-or-down vote," he said of the nominating process, "even if the nominee isn't popular with the special-interest groups in Washington."

Indeed, Nelson voted for cloture twice on former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton and once for former EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson.

He backed the nominations of Samuel Alito and John Roberts to the Supreme Court, as well as John Ashcroft and Alberto Gonzales to the Attorney General post.
