(13,305 posts)I hate everything about it and what it has done to our country.
I cringe every time I see a tweet by an old person in a position of authority who really do believe that any of this is making a difference or that somehow they are "connecting" or whatever other delusions they have.
This applies to politicians, celebrities, media figures......everyone.

(86,005 posts)Today is a good day to remember that Trump's tweets are included in Vladimir Putin's intelligence briefings.
... and also that Trump is so uninterested in his own daily briefings that his aides had to come up with ploys to trick him into paying attention.

(13,305 posts)...relying on twitter to be some sort of political tool that actually has impact or meaning is the LAST one we should have worried about.
The only reason Trump's tweets get the play that they do is because the media reports on them in lieu of actual news and journalism.
Someone like Schumer...our top Dem...only has 1 million followers. I would venture most of them are already on his side on almost every issue. It's a completely pointless exercise that does nothing but allow people the illusion that they are actually doing something. And all of this goes triple for the media.

(86,005 posts)...our party and supporters are reaching far more people with their social media messaging and communications than we did in my younger days. It's an effort which is almost automatic for millions of folks to read and respond, and, if interested, to act.
It's always curious to hear complaints about social media... on social media.

(13,305 posts)I'm all in favor of pretty much all social media except twitter which is far too much of an echo chamber and also it seems to be weighted far too heavy in importance by our reps and media in proportion to it's numbers, reach, and scope.
...Twitter is extremely diverse.
It features a sprawling range of reporters, investigators, experts, legislators, pundits, etc., with myriad viewpoints, interests, and concerns.
For me, twitter is a more precise and prolific google. Nothing else compares for sources, quotes, links, and breaking news. Twitter is a major source of discussion and communication for millions. It's free-flowing, and most useful for links to news reports - often offered by the actual writers and individuals involved.
The main benefit of twitter and tweets is the links to substantive things. Most users understand that the one-liners serve as headlines or intros to whatever they link to in the tweet.
Properly set up, following only those sources that you trust and are truly informative, your twitter feed can serve as your own personal google for leading or breaking news. Your twitter page can read like a personalized news reference. It all depends on who you choose to follow.
Many, many prescient and revealing statements have been introduced and highlighted on Twitter. Sometimes you get comments about news events, sometimes comments and a link to what they're referring to. Sometimes you get a relevant pic or a pic of an official statement.

(758 posts)The obvious obvious obvious truth right in front of everyone's noses, to be seen day after day after day, that Trump is blocking, obstructing the Special Counsel's investigation and is acting guilty.
Just say it already: Schumer: You appear guilty when you disparage the institutions of justice. The FBI is not disgraced, but it is you who are acting disgraceful.
There. Fixed it for you.

But I suppose as an official leader, he's not free to be as frank.
